The team on saturday shown everything needed to get out of the mess we find ourselves in. Has it come too late? Maybe. But as a light sider I have optimism that we will get out of trouble.
Exactly what was different from weeks gone by on saturday?
We carried much more of a goal threat. Once Rodallega and Sammon were introduced we looked very dangerous. Not only the attack minded players where effective but Boyce and Figeuroa got forward. One negative point though at the beginning of the game N’Zogbia started in a more central role off Di Santo which I don’t think worked. Possibly in the next game Cleverley should be more central with Moses and N’Zogbia out wide which I think would benefit all the players in the system.
The desire of the players was immense. Although we started slowly the players took over the game and we over ran a stubborn Birmingham team. In the second half we took the game to them, we looked much more up for the challenge. No one was being carried in the game. As much as I think Caldwell can be a liability there was one moment in the second half where he took a nasty boot to the face. He went down jumped straight back up and then showed himself for the ball, no rolling around on the floor just up and ready to get back going again. Ali’s reaction once we scored celebrating towards the East Stand was great.
Hopefully a lot of the fans who have been slagging off the team and manager who haven’t been going will get down for the Spurs game. I think we have what it takes.
