Just watched the game “as live” on Sky without knowing the result and have to say I am completely bemused.
In his post match comments Bob said sthg along the lines of being frustrated that we weren’t able to get the second goal, but what does he expect if:

Franco is expected to both create and convert?
We lose Kone but replace him with a midfielder.
We have 3 strikers on the bench – all of whom have now had some game time, but not one even gets an injury time run out.

Boselli must have been thinking that with Kone gone that today was his chance. He must surely be on his way out now right?

Boselli has had more than enough chances. He’s proved he’s not up to it. Bagged a brace at West Ham in the cup against some inexperienced defenders but couldn’t score against Bradford or Bournemouth. Also, noticed he didn’t step up to take a penalty against Bradford but that’s beside the point.

Unfortunately, as I’m sure you know we don’t have the cash to go out and buy a 20 goal a season striker. I as well as many others thought Kone could well be that man and we got him on the cheap but he’s not quite found his feet yet. Being away with the African Nations may do him good if he can bag a few goals but we’re left short up top.

I thought Bobby’s line up today was the best he could play and quite predictable so not sure what your argument is there? Maloney basically played up top with Franco and the first 25 minutes or so up to their goal we bossed the midfield. We created plenty chances and McArthur found himself forward numerous times, could have even bagged 2 goals in the opening 10 minutes.

Franco didn’t have the best of games but his work rate was second to none. He also scored an unbelievable goal. We should have won today. With a bit of luck and Mark Schwarzer not in such good form we would have got 3 points. Got to say take a bow Maynor too, Ronnie Stam almost cost us the point with some pathetic defending.

P.S. Looks like Ramis has done the cruciate knee ligaments. 5+ months on the sidelines.

My point is that we play 3 4 3 and tend to play 3 recognised strikers within that. Having lost one of our first choice strikers you’d expect one of our other 3 strikers to slot in. Even if they don’t start:
wouldn’t you expect one of them to be introduced either:

A – when we’re searching for an equaliser but can’t convert? Maybe not as Bob doesn’t tend to think that way)
B – when we’re looking for a winner and just need a fresh outlet. Surprisingly not given Bob’s attacking-mindedness.

Why have 3 on the bench and not use one?

As for Boselli specifically, he really has not had any proper chances. Had Bob (after making noises about given players their chance) actually played him in the Prem when he it a bit of form early season and for longer than 10min as a late sub then maybe we might have seen better results from him, but poor service to him when he has played is also a factor.

Don’t get me wrong – I’m pleased with a point, but think Bob could have easily made better starting selections and subs to earn us a win.

Listening to Talksport last night, subject-matter: some geezer (South American / Italian) Wet Spam are looking at.

Reference during the conversation to number of goals the guy had scored in the Argentinian league (prolific goalscorer) at which point one of the pundits quipped and the TOP SCORER in the league went by the name of MAURO BOSSELLI.

Both could then be heard falling to the floor in fits of laughter. Once composed, one of the pundits said ‘if Bosselli ain’t scoring (ZERO PL goals for Latics, if not mistaken), he ain’t contributing. So very true.

To my mind, plain to see in his body language at the Bournemouth game last week that he know’s his chance has gone and that he’s picking up a ‘wage’ and counting down the days to a Bosman.

He would have expected to have been in the first team, October onwards
(now or never). NOT that I agree AT ALL with that ‘expectation’

Lo and behold…as per SUN today …

WIGAN will try to offload £6million misfit Mauro Boselli this month.

The Argentine striker, 27, made just FIVE passes in Saturday’s 1-1 FA Cup draw against League One Bournemouth.

incidentally, of the FIVE made, didn’t manage to find his man ONCE

A phone call from Sir Alex could be in order if RM doesn’t add the walk to the talk !
