Maribor 2 Wigan athletic 1 europa leagueVince, surely Wigan 4 Chelsea 2 (League Cup) and Chelsea 0 Wigan 1 (FA Cup) should be in there somewhere ;)
31 January 2015 at 8:22 pm #139034The next ten wins would be mine
5 February 2015 at 12:57 pm #139179No 1-0 win over ‘The Filth’ with that sublime Maloney goal? The only points we have ever taken off them in 18 meetings!
46-4 was the combined score in the 14 games prior to that memorable night and 56-5 was the total combined score for all 18 encounters and so therefore that solitary win was the best for me by far !5 February 2015 at 1:27 pm #139183Coventry away, FA Cup, Darren Patterson
Maribor away, green beer and Jagermeister, massive turnout walking to the game, lively.
Sheff United away to stay in the league, Emile Heskey.
I’d take a Sheff United at Brentford this season, right now.
5 February 2015 at 5:28 pm #139185Just gonna include ones I was there at as opposed to seeing on the telly & in no particular order and I’m going for the game itself as opposed to the trip/day:
Cup final 2013
3-3 v Bury (A) Boxing Day 1994. Torrential rain, flooded pitch & probably should never have been played but a cracking game
2-2 v PNE (H) April 1999. Latics in front twice & pegged back twice but a quality game in that congested end of season run in
7-1 v Scarborough. Scarborough may have been an awful side but Latics didn’t put a foot wrong & Bobby scored the greatest goal that I have ever seen
3-2 v Torquay (H) 1996. End to end game in which Latics were pegged back twice but Graeme Jones stuck a header away in the last minute. Made it on to TV being carted away by the stewards for jumping on the pitch as Jonah piled into the crowd to celebrate
5-0 v York (H) 1998. The first example of just how good the Barlow/Liddell/Haworth forward line could be. One of the goals incolved about 6 or 7 one touch passes starting with Bradshaw down near the corner flag before it was laid off for Liddell to slam home. Twas a thing of beauty!!
6-1 v Stoke (H) 2001
1-0 v City (H) 2002. Revenge for the Hand of Goat goal
3-1 v West Ham (A) 2004. Made it back with hours to spare from a music festival in Spain. A few liveners in the Boleyn pub before kick off & then sat back & watched a masterclass in football from Latics
3-1 v Reading (H) 2005. Never been as nervous watching Latics being 2-0 up
4-3 v City (H) 2006. My now wife had been pestering to come to a game so I chose this coz I thought it’d be cold & dull & she wouldn’t wanna go again. Instead I got this & she wanted to come to more games – thankfully that phase didn’t last long
5-3 v Blackburn (H) 2007. Seem to remember Latics being 3-0 up at half time. getting pegged back to 3-3 before pulling away again. Great game
3-2 v West Ham (H) 2011I’m aware I’ve picked more than 10 but there’s only so far you can narrow it down!!
6 February 2015 at 8:13 pm #139220Im gonna add a few that may not have been mentioned
Villa 0 Latics 2
Portsmouth 0 Latics 2
Scunthorpe 2 Latics 7 not the debut Sir Ian Botham was hoping for
Latics 5 Crystal Palace 0
As someone has stated there has been so many brilliant days watching this club.
6 February 2015 at 8:34 pm #139223Went Prague early am after Villa and I’d ballsed my name on my ticket, check in wanted to charge me for making a change. I was still bladdered, it all became a little bit embarrassing.
Portsmouth was bommy night, tea time kick off, did Chimbonda get both goals? Stayed overnight, was bladdered by kick off. Late on at night, got ‘found’ by a taxi we’d used earlier in the day as I wandered round some random estate and he took me back to the hotel, wouldn’t take a fare off me. Good people down there.
We’ve had some cracking away days over the years.
One of the best ever was Barnet away, no football seen. Absolutely slaughtered, me and a mate spent the game under a Latics flag in the away end , (cricket pitch?) Didn’t even know the score till the day after and Steve Morgan (I think) had been sent off.
Then there were the aways on Fletchers, complete with Bainsey’s dad and relatives, some eye opening occurrences!

Tez, you didnt stay in Chichester did you for the Pompey game coz if you did we must have been on the same coach,
6 February 2015 at 8:41 pm #139225When I think further back it is hard to beat Torquay away in 1997.
6 February 2015 at 9:46 pm #139229When I think further back it is hard to beat Torquay away in 1997.Remember going to Torquay when they played on Saturday night, they had a great club there, like we did at Springy.
7 February 2015 at 2:07 am #139234No mate I didn’t go with Fletch that day, drove down and stayed in Pompey with my nephew, we were drinking Kronenburg blanc from early at Port Solent.
Torquay 97 I drove too, car full, Nova SR! Set off at 4am no digs booked, got there at 7am, knocking all the b & b’s up, got stitched at a fckin gay place, with a pair of benders. In the morning we left one of the lads in bed while we went out for brekkie, didn’t fancy it there but left door propped open while he was bollocko in bed. We knew they’d come knocking saying breakfast was last orders so when we come back the door was shut and our mate was still crashed out. Always said he didn’t feel anything!
Got flashed on speed cameras at Bristol on the bridge works twice going and the same coming back. Never got a ticket. Top weekend.
