27 August 2010 at 7:13 pm #44325This is up to the sale of Jason Scotland.
27 August 2010 at 7:31 pm #44329correct me if im wrong but didnt we buy zogbia with funds we got from heskey a d palaciosNo, he put the funds somewhere else and paid for n’Zogbia out of his own pocket..
….what did you expect him to do? The club isn’t in the black you know!!
27 August 2010 at 7:38 pm #44331This is up to the sale of Jason Scotland.i would love to see the figures based from about 2004 when other clubs started realising that our players were worth money -in the early whelan days alot of what we spent on players was dead money and no return was ever made on them, but since we became a premiership club our balance sheet is massively in the black.
even with those figures our net spend over 18 years is only 5 million or so – not much for a man who claims its cost him millions bankrolling us.
i have said it before and will say it once more
it has not cost whelan ONE PENNY to take wafc to where they are now
his free advertising for the JJB empire during our climb from the bottom and the growth of the public company was a mere fraction of the true cost it would have beenhe recouped any outlay many fold above the the amount he ever invested in wigan athletic when he sold his JJB shares.
27 August 2010 at 7:38 pm #44333Aren’t we something like £50m in debt? I know I haven’t put in millions to cover this debt, neither I presume has Bickymon and all the others who want Whelan out…so if its not the fans or the players who will cover this debt, I wonder who will? Mr Whelan maybe?

Purely subjective to suggest that any increased revenue that may have been earned due to JJB’s association with Wigan Athletic is equal to the amount of money that Whelan has spent on the club.
In any case, as I said before, it is immaterial. All the players Whelan sold for big bucks wanted to leave the club. Without thinking too deeply about it, arguably the only one who didn’t was Jason Roberts.

who led you to believe that one griff ?? the same man who YOU say (forgive me while i troll back to get the exact phrase)
“To be honest Bicky, we can all easily tell when Whelan’s lying – his mouth’s moving.”or am i being “purely subjective” again ?

Oh OK, so when the deals to sell Valencia, Cattermole, Palicios and Heskey were agreed, those individuals had to be dragged kicking and screaming away from Christopher Park, did they?
If I don’t respond, it’s because I’m off to the pub.

How many more times, for Christ’s sake!?
1) Player decides he wants to leave.
2) Find a club (any club) that wants him.
3) Get as much as you can and sell.
4) Get a replacement.3 out of 4 complete.[/quote]

27 August 2010 at 9:50 pm #44358It’s funny how people keep saying Whelan is making a profit out of these transfers. Yes we sell for more than we buy for but do you think these players play for us for free? There’s the not insubstantial wages to pay you know!
To be honest I’d rather see Whelan selling players (like we always did to survive pre-Whelan) and trying to balance the books than to bring in some foreign owner, run up a load of debt and then go bust when they get bored.
People say we’ll miss out on a load of money if we go down, I don’t see it that way – being in the Premier League is starting to cost us (and every other club) big time. We’d probably be more financially secure in the Championship paying smaller wages to genuine footballers, not the mercenaries populating the Prem.

where do you think the tv income and other revenue goes -or do you think that whelan pays that out of his own pocket as well.
he chose to do what he has done when he bought wafc in the first place and no matter what anyone says the whole adventure has cost him very little or nothing over the following years.
28 August 2010 at 12:56 am #44371All goes on trying to keep the club afloat – take a look at the accounts.
When Whelan took over Latics football was a very different business. Back then his wealth would have been enough to put us up there with the best, now you need to be a billionaire who’s happy to blow your fortune if you want to achieve anything in the Prem.
I’m no real fan of Whelan, but I can appreciate what he has done for our club and I’d rather have him here than a foreign owner. -
