Wigan chairman Dave Whelan has reassured Roberto Martinez his job is safe despite dropping to the bottom of the table.
The Latics have lost their last seven Premier League games in a shocking run of form to slump to the basement.
Despite the bad results, Whelan insists he will not consider axing Martinez and he has backed the Spaniard to guide them to safety.
Stay together
“Roberto’s position is never, ever in question. We stay together,” insisted Whelan.
“I respect him, and I know I’m going to get 110 per cent from Roberto every time the team takes the field. Things are going against us but we have to keep battling on.
“My spirits are never down. We may be at the foot of the table right now, but we won’t be at the end of the season.”
“We can get out of this mess together. We’re not fools, we can look at the table and we really have to rally round and do what we do best.”
That is sad news. He is convinced we are going to get out of trouble. How?. We cannot score goals and we cannot defend and unlike last season we don’t have Charles N’Zogbia here to get us out of the sh1t. No goals from open play unless deflected. That is disgraceful considering we are in November. Now i don’t need to say i told you so to people trying to stay confident because yourselves know that it is happening this term but i wish someone would say it to Whelan. Martinez is so far out of his depth. He is in the abyss of his management level. Why can’t he just be man enough to admit it if he loves the club so frigging much.
And where is this 110% every time he and his team takes to the field, They are as drab and bland as each other. Both clueless who give around 40% i’d say

The way I read it is that the door is open for him to leave of his own accord
Never thought of it like that Tea bag,but he is sooooo stubborn,I don’t think he realises how bad he is,and I don’t think he will change.
what else can whelan say, after his i wont sack martinez statement, esp after martinez turned villa down, loyality works both ways. i`m not a martinez fan, i cant remember ever being as flustrated watching latics. things……….as they say can only get better
They will get better, starting on sunday. Next two games are very important. Looking at december with an open mind. All the other teams have to play the “big boys”, so don’t feel like were being discriminated against. L’arse, l’pool, chelski all at home. We’ve beat all 3 of them at home before!…………..Ya never know.
