…with our joke of a towns’ people not supporting our fantastic team. If you like Whelan or not there is no excuse for our poor following, there must be well over 30000 football fans in this town. We need all the support we can get win lose or draw fans support their team. But unfortunately Dave Whelan won’t stick around if the joke public of wigan will not follow the team. Some will say good get rid of him, but the fact is we will not be a premiership team without him.
As it has taken 15 years to grow our fanbase by 15,000+ – from 1841 in 94/95 to 18,413 last season, is it not fair to assume it will be another 7-10 years or so until we reach 25,000?

What blinkers? Just an oppinion. I know it is pointless but thats my point, (if that makes sense). Just thought I would add to every other pointless post on this so called fans forum were you are not allow to have or express an opinion.

might be just a rumour but was told whelans selling in summer to hyundia ? anyone else heard it …..i know they where interested a while back but heard nothing untill yesterday .

and also a reason why I didn’t quote that season, things have levelled out over the last two/three years after the initial surge when we were promoted.Anyways, it wasn’t the point I was trying to get across, the fact that it has taken 15 years to get crowds of 18k average means it could well be another 10 years before we could look to getting near 25k.
There are still a LOT of scousers in Wigan (especially the Winstanley quadrant) that won’t change their allegance and will also bring their kids up supporting the red and blue teams in Liverpool. Even though it is bodering on child abuse they will still do it and social services will do nothing about it.
Tell me about it, i was in the poacher yesterday for the derby and there they were in their Liverpool and Everton tops. Most have never seen, nevermind been to the grounds. There was however a little lad in a Wigan top which put a smile on my face and i think he had a scouse background as he continually tryin to pick pocket his dad :lol:
So yeah, wigan fans are hard to come by in my neck of the woods and i cant see it changing in the future

I lived in Winstanley for a couple o years.
Hated it.
The poacher is the most cliquey pub in the world.Ha, well, I was out and about round the locals at the weekend and seen loads of scouser tops….so for fun, I decided to wind a few of them up.
…everyone of them had a Wigan accent. I said why scousers? support your local team and they said that I support a load of whale…..
…I said I would rather eat a load of whale that support a load of scousers.
…..Think I might walk round Wigan when the world cup is on with a Germany top on…..wonder if anyone will say anything to me???? ;)

They are not scousers as you put it they are probably sons/daughters of ex pat scousers who moved here in the 1960’s 1970’s and 80s.Or even worse sons and daughters of plastic scousers who moved from that great concrete mess called Skem in the 90s.
They try to speak with some over the top broad scouse accent(plastic scouse) but in reality they are Wiganers cos they were born here.My Mum and Dad moved in here in the sixties and to a large extent adopted the town as their own.These placky scouser p’ss me off they move here and then try to recreate some Toxteth sh’thole in the middle of the town that has welcomed them in and dont support the local teams.If wigan went to war with Liverpool tomorrow i would be in the Wigan camp without a doubt because this is my birthplace and where i was reared -give me a proper scouser any day than this bunch of nobsI am not having a go at scousers, my dad’s a scouser and supports the latics…..just pointing out that they were not scousers…
