What are your thoughts on this place?
Food, atmosphere and drinks… how do you rate it?Plus, for you to venture down there on a Friday or Staurday, what would you want to see?
I have been chatting to them and really want to make an effort to give fans a reason to go down. We have already started the pre and post away match incentives, where they will be opening up 2 hours before coaches leave the stadium for drinks and food, on Saturday that will be breakfast items and drinks, mid week full menu.
On returning to the Satdium after an away game (if its before 9pm, so mainly Saturdays), anyone with a match tick will get 20% off.
There will also be raffles where you can win your away day fare back, hospitality etc…
We are even looking to get games nostalgia on too, as we have a pretty decent archive of footage from the 80s-00s.
Any feedback would be great
FA Cup Winners 2013, sounds good that
12 October 2022 at 11:20 am #197232Called in on Saturday before the game.
Nice chilled atmosphere very reminiscent of the old supporters club at Springy.
A few old games being shown would be great and the opening hours suit people wishing to stay after games and chat about the game etc.
Live music would probably draw a good few people in after games also.
Maybe a visit from some players after games would be brilliant to engage them with supporters more.
Haven’t sampled any food but by all accounts it is good , the drinks are decent also however prices are very high for Wigan and maybe the owners could review this going forward.
A great idea though and good to see the owners trying to make additional revenue from the stadium.12 October 2022 at 11:25 am #197234Called in on Saturday before the game.

Fans drive down to the stadium and ask for none alcholic drinks apart from Bavaria they haven’t got another choice and walk out of the place, seeing as none alcholic drinks are popular the bar should be stocked at all times.
The bar staff are very quick and friendly which is a breath of fresh air compared to the concourse.
Fuck the EFL
16 October 2022 at 10:24 am #197254Prices are high if you compare it to Harry’s Bar and The George drinking their cow p1ss. The prices are the equivalent to any decent place with Sky diff games on every tele and cracking food everything’s gone up not just in Whelan’s Bar.
I go in every game and sometimes after waiting for the bridge to clear. My only fear is bellend away fans creeping in and it kicks off cause the guy on the door will stand no chance.
I’m not quite sure why they didn’t do this revamp in the John Smith’s bar, far bigger but still brilliant bar just what we needed considering away fans have Red Robin and under their stand
17 October 2022 at 10:20 am #197260Good feedback and all passed on. They have issues with drink prices like all bars and restaurants, plus the deal they have with the brewery isn’t like a pub would have, so even further restricts them. But I have put forward a couple of ideas that they are considering.
There is a Quiz night on the 27th October with some really great prizes, plus I have put forward ideas to see if they can get a few more people going in on Fridays and Thursdays.
There were quite a few that went in before travelling to Sunderland and the offers they did on food attracted some in afterwards.
As the coaches are departing at 8am for both QPR and Swansea, it won’t be worth opening before these. But it will open before the Coventry City game on the 8th November, plus for all the England games during the World Cup.

But will they have 0% alcohol beers on sale? If they have count me in, if they don’t no point going, I’m off the booze for October and maybe beyond.
Fuck the EFL
4 April 2023 at 7:44 am #199196Nipped in here after the game Saturday and gave this place another try.
Had a chuckle when I ordered two pints and the bar staff member said “ that’s just £11.80 “ .4 April 2023 at 11:29 am #199200Around 3-4 weeks ago a pint of Madri was £5.40 in Whelans after the international break its now £5.90, talk about a rip off, same in the concourse as well, anymore increases in beer and they can fuck right off, I,ll go to a pub for a pint and so will a few more.
No need to rip off the fans like this!
Edit…I went in there before every home game when it was Rigalettos £4.60 a pint back then.
Fuck the EFL
