““Contrary to some suggestions, there are no plans to sell the club, which will remain in family hands and I have every confidence that David, along with Chief Executive Jonathan Jackson, will lead us forwards with wisdom. “

3 March 2015 at 4:48 pm #140037Thank you Dave
3 March 2015 at 5:17 pm #140038I think it was the stupid arsehole FA “Your not a racist but give us 50 grand please thanks” that tipped the scales for him. Without Big Dave at the helm for all those years we’d have nothing but shite memories, all’s I can say is a big thankyou for one of the best days in my life, watching us lift the FA Cup.
3 March 2015 at 5:28 pm #140039I would have thought that someone who (claims) to have followed Wigan throughout this chairman’s 20 year reign would know how to spell his bloody surname.
3 March 2015 at 8:15 pm #140040Mutty, I thought you being a rugby fan you would be singing the praises of Dave Whelan, after all he saved our towns rugby club from bankruptcy. After all the success they had in the eighties they still ended up skint. Both sets of fans owe Whelan a big thank you. Enjoy your retirement Mr Whelan

3 March 2015 at 9:13 pm #140043Not too sure about the timing of this – I would have thought he could have told the players he was retiring at the end of the season, and go out and give it one last push for him.. sure that would have given players a bit of a boost. Timing of this is a bit strange in my opinion …..
3 March 2015 at 11:10 pm #140048At first i thought that`s right you sod off and leave the sinking ship then you realize hes 78 and running a football club most of us won`t see 70 that says it all cheers DW can i clean your pool in Barbados.
3 March 2015 at 11:21 pm #140049The first thing his grandson should do is to get a statue sorted for big dave
3 March 2015 at 11:36 pm #140050First thing little Dave should do is get that training ground at Chorley sorted out and then get a decent youth policy set up with a 10 year plan to bring through our own talent,we have to do this as soon as possible.
Steady the ship in league one and get a scouting system set up around the country and use the remaining premier league money wisely to keep the club afloat but the future is anything but bright with Big Dave’s departure and the heady days of 2006-2013 seem A distant memory now.
Time to baton down the hatches we are in for a rough ride. -
