Securing the services of Jussi (so quickly and so publicly) for another two years was probably not the brightest thing to do knowing that we were going to put in a bid for Ali – Gartside and or Coyle have shown that they have the business acumen of a house fly.
Mr Whelan is only doing what comes naturally to him (and what he is damned good at) and that is looking after us and getting the best for all concerned….club, supporters and even Ali himself.
Should there be any substance in a rumour of another club coming in for him then I’m sure that when Ali comes to discuss personal terms with said club, then his request for all ‘rights’ and 90 grand a week will be turned down flat. Copyright: Ways and Means Act 1974.
Enjoying a watching brief on this one…………..
21 June 2011 at 9:17 pm #68043i cant understand why anyone is getting hot under the collar about this – its whelans job to get the best possible deal he can to buy al habsi – but him and martinez will have put a cap on the figure they want to pay, if he manages to buy him for that figure or less thats a good deal.
on the other hand its coyle and gartsides job to get as much as possible out of the deal – they are not in it for our benefit and owe it to bolton, club and fans to maximise the amount they recieve – and at this moment in time they have the upper hand,
they have a commodity we want –its called business it happens 24 hours a day in every corner of the earth – why personalise it.
21 June 2011 at 10:45 pm #68046Forget the sentiments involved, The fact is he aint worth 4 million and Dave is dead right to stick to his guns. No 3rd choice keeper in the bottom half of the league is worth that and some decent performances for us doesnt change that. He also dropped some clangers and as much as we love him its probably time to move on. 10 games in 4 years for Bolton says how much they rated him and now Dave most definitely wont back down and perhaps Coyle wont. They aint exactly queuing up for him eh?
21 June 2011 at 11:17 pm #68047he isnt worth what Bolton are asking. What i feel Bolton are doing are putting a bit of pressure on Ali to cancel any bonus’s or sell on clause that bolton would owe for accepting an offer to sell whilst under contract. When Ali’s representatives get around the table and make it known that he is willing to waiver his loyalty bonus and sell on bonus. i think we’ll see movement.

The second part of your post is factually incorrect: Schmeichel ‘never won nothing’Yes he did. He won nothing in 2003 whilst at Man City.

.23 June 2011 at 2:39 am #68074oh well we still have kirkland to fall back onBest not – sicknote’ll be out injured all season.
23 June 2011 at 3:02 am #68075It is a great pity that Kirkland has such serious injury problems. After watching our four goalkeepers warming up at Stoke it was clear to me that, technique wise, the best ‘keeper was Kirkland. If it wasn’t for his back problem he would still be a top, probably the best English, goalkeeper.
