i think the towel was thrown in when heskey and palacios where sold
if we had kept those and further strengthened the team it might have been a differant situation now
with crowds well over the 20k
instead the team was ripped apart and weakened every season after destroying what growing support we had and started the decline we now see
the final act will be the sale of the stadium to the warriors that is a cert

Agreed Bicky – though I think the rot started as soon as we got promoted, when we sold the Duke on the eve of our debut.

What nonsense! Duke walked away from us because his agent dangled the thought of riches and glory in front of his eyes. And I know he went to WBA. We had no choice but to let him go if he didn’t want to play for us.

You are really saying that it was downhill from the moment we got in the Premier League???

I threw in the towel when I realised people don’t know how to spell “throw”, but that’s just me I suppose.

When a bigger club comes in and offers our player more money and a better chance of success, how do we the club keep hold of them?.What should Mr Whelan do to keep the player at Wigan?

I didn’t say it was all downhill from there, but the rot started as soon as we entered the greed league and our naeivity with the Duke shone through. We didn’t have to let him go and certainly not to a relegation rival.

Yes we did have to let him go. A release clause was activated in his contract.

‘The Greed League’? If Sky etc are prepared to offer the money to the Premier League, what are they supposed to do? Refuse the money moralistic grounds?

Just because a release clause was activated, that didn’t mean we couldn’t have done more to keep him (and I don’t mean just by throwing money at the problem).

You know the Duke didn’t want to go – his head was clearly turned – but ever since we arrived in this league we’ve not really fought to keep our best players and trotted out the “if a player doesn’t want to be here then we won’t stand in their way” line. THAT is nonsense. That’s the sort of thing strong management is supposed to preempt and prevent.

Nathan signed for 1 million and in his contract was the offer over 3 million and he could go clause. Now the club didnt write that in Nathan and/or his agent had that written in.When the Albion came in for him if he genuinely wanted to stay why didnt he turn down their offer?.The lad probably regrets the day he left coz Robson didnt give him much of a chance but with any transfer the end decision lies with the player.
