now it is OFFICIAL that we are the WORST side in the league with the WORST manager, how long before the martinez supporters club, colloquially referred to as ‘lightside’, kick into action blaming the ref, the biased media, lack of funds, tight whelan, “THE DARK SIDE”, me, everybody bar martinez for the reason we are where we are now.

And when that argument doesnt work – they can fall back on the usual “well we want to be relegated because thats were all the good competetive football is”and how evil this premier league is.

I agree with everything you say. It’s akin to your girlfriend giving you the elbow then you go around telling everyone that “You didn’t really fancy her anyway” ‘Can all the ‘better in the Championship Brigade’ explain what they want the team to do when we are in there? I always thought the idea was to win games, in order to get promoted. Not lose games and get relegated again

i for one dont want martinez to get the boot,it is simple we can not compete in this league and you only have to look at the table to see how close it is all way up to eighth place.I like what bob is trying to do and given time he will achieve what he has set out to do in his plan he produced to dw which got him the job.I have said for two seasons now i dont want to be in the prem league and what went on yesterday with mr rooney is another reason why,if that had been in the championship he would of gone. You are intitled to your views but you need to get behind the club and bob,we have been in a lot worse postions than this, like not knowing from one week to another if we had a club to support.Get a grip, i will put my hard hat on

Hi aceface, I ain’t slagging anyone off for their opinions. That’s what the games all about. However if you are happy to see the Latics. performances over the last two seasons, you are easily pleased. I’ve never been as BORED in 50 years of watching football. As it would appear are a lot of other people, hence the drop in attendances. Just because I say negative things about the club doesn’t mean I ain’t a supporter I am a Share Holder (for what it’s worth) and when the club where in dire straits and were on the verge of folding. At a meeting held in the Queens Hall I signed up to pay x number of pounds a month to help the club keep afloat. So I do have the club at heart. It’s just I hate to see it in decline like this, due to one man’s( or maybe two) stubbornness or inability to change anything.

let me put you wise aceface because you were either not there yourself or you have a selective memory,as it seems many of martinez’s supporters have, i was there during the freddie pye and ken bates eras, i joined supporters groups and attended meetings and fully supported protests led by jack sudworth,we even paid and rasied money to support the club – even back then some folk said dont do that – dont rock the boat, get behind the club, we shouted our protests at the ground or in every media we could.

i am still here after all the protagonists at the time are distant memories and i will be here, hopefully, after martinez has long gone – dont you dare tell me to get behind the club because i have been behind this club since i was a nipper -it will not stop me expressing my disgust at the buffon in charge now, just as i did when pye and bates were dragging the club down.

“Lightside” I think Bobbys Boot Boys would be a more appropriate description of them. ;)

ow do bronx,i never said you were slagging anyone off,and no i am not easily pleased just sometimes you need to take a step back to move forward. We could have quite easily have got relegated under spud head it was only because he got the points on the board before xmas but after xmas it was relegation form but i dont recall a witch hunt for him even though he stitched us up before hand.I too was at the queens hall meetings, and supports club and collected money in buckets with my dad been down to springy to put straw over pitch then back again on sat morning to take it off because we couldnt afford for the game to be off.I dont see it as a decline i see it as a transition period mate

The fact that you have supported the club since way back, joining supporters groups, attending meetings, etc., etc., does not make your opinion any more valid than others.

Wigan Athletic is a now million miles away from what went on back then. Whelan has decided that he cannot or will not invest in the club to the degree in which he has done previously. The Wigan public, despite having the opportunity to watch cheap Premiership football, has shown no desire to support the club beyond what seems to be about a 12,000 fan base.
Bruce left because of the limitations he had to work under. There was no real youth policy and no interest in developing the structure of the club below the first team level. Established Premiership players were acquired wherever possible and paid salaries beyond the means of the club.
So Whelan decided to cut his cloth and appointed a manager who shared his views on how the club had to change. Some of those changes can be seen. The club is in the process of reducing the wage bill by off-loading the high earners, young players with potential have been signed and the reserves are performing better.

Wigan Athletic will always struggle in the Premiership for the reasons mentioned. We could have an Allardyce, Pulis or McCarthy as manager and still get relegated but if relegation does happen this season I, for one, would sooner it be under the current regime rather than those previously tried alternatives.

no problem with any of that –
but can you please explain to those of us on the ‘darkside’ that dont seem to be as far-sighted as you – how you explain the, boring, unadventurous, mistake ridden, slow rubbish served up by martinez, or better still,
                  why,
despite the fact that martinez and his brand of football has taken us to the edge of the premiership precipice, has he not once changed it around or tried something different when it clearly not working – and that stubborn inability to adapt is why he is the worst manager in the premiership.

It could be that Martinez, his staff and the players are just not good enough.
No point changing anything now though, not that it would have been changed anyway because Whelan has put a stake in the ground and said Martinez is here for the long haul.
I also think the plan comes first and the manager second and I doubt Whelan would find another manager willing to buy into his plan in the same way.

Oh, and I don’t claim to be anymore far-sighted than you or anyone else. It’s just my opinion and I won’t get worked up about it if people have a different opinion to mine.

Very strange comment that about us being officially the worse team in the prem. I don’t remember you saying that about West ham, Wolves or Birmingham when they were lying in 20th place and we were 15th or 16th.
Just underlines your bitter negativity towards OUR manager and OUR club. :teasing-blah:

Have to say I like the thrill of the chase meself, even if I get dumped at the end of it. Yoyoing seems much more exciting than living in fear of the drop year on year.

Given a distinct lack of knowledge of the league based footballing system used all over the world, let me clarify that a season in the premiership doesnt end in February, it last the full season. And if you thik losing to a Man Utd team was the final straw, then I think you need a reality check. Saturdays game wont break us, neither will the man City game. But the ref was awful on Saturday.
