2 March 2010 at 1:10 pm #25025Calm before the storm. I think Whelan will sack Martinez and will do it this season. He would sooner have £40 million for staying up than a fraction for relegation.
So he sacks Roberto and we automatically stop up, how on earth do you work that out?
Who does he bring in for the last 12 games? Himself? You? Maurice Lindsay? I am sure all the Champ Manager experts on here would be able to turn us around and get us safely into mid-table? Simply click formation, change 451 to 442 and we’ll be in mid-table before you know it! Really is that simple isn’t it

How about,
Mark Hughes.

Have a day off from being a berk, mate. There’s more chance of me or Standish Walker getting the job and, as we all know, we know f*** all about football.

It’s not for me just yet Griff, I’m holding out in case one of the big four positions comes up.2 March 2010 at 8:55 pm #25066Right………….now you ave all had your say on summert that had bugger all to do with the original post can we now get back to the post……..Do you think Whelan regrets `Bigging Up` Roberto???
I think the Chairman has to big up the manager. He did it with Paul Jewell and Steve Bruce.
If truth be known, most were delighted when he was appointed manager. Being honest, I was desperate to see him in that chair as indeed most fans were.
Whelan on this occasion did exactly what most fans would have done.
If Bob fails, we cant blame Dave Whelan for appointing him as 99% of us would have appointed the same person.2 March 2010 at 10:28 pm #25075Maybe he is too busy working out how to pay of our £50m worth of debt !
Exactly.
I’m no Whelan fan believe me.
But what would happen if he walked away from Wigan Athletic tomorrow, and demanded the return of the money he has loaned them.It would be another Portsmouth.
I think it’s a case of better the devil you know.
Do you think Whelan would sell the Latics tomorrow if he could get his money back?I do.[/quote]
That applies to most clubs in this country, including the very largest. All you can go by is what Whelan says, which is his personal loans of £36m will be converted into shares when the time comes to sell. The reason stadium ownership is passing to Latics is because he has a far greater chance of recouping his money selling the whole package.
You also need to factor in Whelan being one of the most outspoken critics of club debt, so you would assume he is planning well ahead.
