Come on let’s be honest here, a large percentage of the home fans only attended because it was free.
Christ I saw faces that hadn’t been there in years. If you want to attract those supporters back into the ground then you need to perform when you have them there.
As per usual, as soon as we have a bumper crowd we perform like a relegation side

Three blokes with kids had no idea which stand they were meant to be in, they tried to get in the East stand with West stand tickets.
Obviously never been before and doubt they will come again after that dross!
It was a great initiative by the club. Probably put about 5,000 on the gate and although it was typical of us not to perform on the day I am sure some of those who came will get the Latics bug and will return again. Once this club gets under your skin as we all know you are a fan for life.
How many of us experienced a crushing defeat at the start of our love affair with Latics?
Me for starters. My first ever game was our first ever home game in the 78/79 season vs Grimsby. That was a defeat. But I most certainly caught that “latics bug” that was going around.
