Without checking on a map, can anyone tell me where in Scotland St Mirren is?

Missing your sarcasm, if there was any intended………….

      Paisley.

St Mirren’s not a place (unless you count the street name). They play in Paisley, in the same way that Port Vale play in Burslem. What has this got to do with anything again?

On 7 Mar 2009, they beat Celtic in the Quarter Final of the Scottish Cup. This was 7 days after they lost 0-7 to Celtic.

For a club of St Mirren’s size to beat a club of Celtic’s size is some achievement – you would think that such a result would put the club and the area on the map.

As it took over 12 hours for a correct response, it appears that such a monumental result didnt register in Wigan, let alone Holland, Germany, South Korea or Easter Island.

Now, whilst I understand that you beating Chelsea is a cracking result, does it really put the football club on the World map so that the name of Wigan Athletic is now on the lips of Koi-Toi Wok in Seoul? I would argue that the 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge when Tommy Gore scored, or even the 4-2 win in the league cup were far more “earth-shattering” results.

Just putting things into perspective. You got 3 points for Saturday, just as you did for beating West Ham. Same as you’ll get for turning over Fake Tan’s Hull side.

Again – well done though. Its always nice to see Chelsea lose!

Mutty I think it’s time somebody had a look at your medication again.

BTW…even though I wont go to the rugby anymore it still gives me pride to see um win.

Sorry, I didn’t see your post. I could have told you in a second where St Mirren play as I used to spend an ‘awful’ lot of time in Renfrew.

I’d agree that their defeat of Celtic was as fantastic an achievement as us beating Chelsea (theirs was bettered only by Inverness’ come-back victory over Celtic, which gave perhaps the greatest back page headline ever: ‘Super Caley Go Ballistic, Celtic Are Atrocious’), but it must be put into perspective.

Celtic v St Mirren was not watched by millions worldwide. It would have had a large worldwide TV audience, but those viewers would have been predominantly Scottish, people with Scottish descendents, Scottish ex-pats, and Irish. All these people would have already been fully aware of who and where St Mirren is.

Wigan v Chelsea WAS watched by millions worldwide. A majority tuned in to watch Chelsea, but watched them beaten by the Premier League’s smallest club. A lot of these viewers will now be aware of Wigan, if they were not already.

I wouldn’t go so far as to say Wigan is now firmly on the map, but there will many more people globally who will now have heard of Wigan, and will be aware that we have a decent team and play some good football.

For the record, I’d disagree that Wigan Athletic will be unknown to ‘Koi-Toi Wok’. We have a Korean international in the squad. If we are not known to him, we’ll probably be known to one of his mates.

I always thought St. Mirren was 2.5 miles up the A94 from Raith.

But ‘cos it was Mutty I couldn’t be arsed replying.

BTW, I too spent a lot of time in Renfrew, working at Hillington.

Drove past Hillington Industrial Estate often enough.

I was based mostly at the airport, but stayed at the Glynhill in Renfrew. Tended not to venture out too often.

Made me laugh at the St Mirren game when some of the Wigan ‘yoof’ were calling them ‘Soft Scottish B@@@@’.

They’ve obviously never been to Paisley, as Beverley Hills it certainly is not!
