I would.
24 January 2010 at 11:50 pm #19511No.
In all honesty, I don’t think many people, or managers, would.
So what? You are in the Europa League……
…but your best players have jumped ship.
And you can’t attract any decent replacements.
You get knocked out in first round of it by some Albanian part-timers.
Then it’s away to Doncaster the Saturday afterwards……..
24 January 2010 at 11:51 pm #19514I wouldn’t either, as amazing as winning the cup would be, for a club like ours stability is a massive thing, Premier League status is a must. I mean look what’s happened to Pompey since they won the cup.

If we go down fella, we won’t go back up. And with predicted attendances of around 10,000 in the championship i’m afraid we’d have to sell all of the big earners. Which in turn would probably see us relegated again.
It’s a BIG NO from Appley Bridge!!
25 January 2010 at 12:06 am #19517You can’t put 17th in the Prem League in your trophy cabinet.
Lets face it, Prem League survival is for the Chief Execs. The glory of winning the FA Cup is for the fans. Would be a better way of establishing our name than a couple more dull years scraping by in the Prem, which is what we’re destined for.
25 January 2010 at 12:13 am #19520Better than scraping by in the Championship……or worse. :o
25 January 2010 at 12:17 am #19523OK. Slightly less provocative, but similar question.
Two choices:
1. FA Cup and 17th place
2. 50 pts and 10th place, a la Jewells first season. As an aside, I’d have swapped 10th place in 05/06 for 17th and the Carling Cup.
25 January 2010 at 12:19 am #19524The first option, people don’t remember 10th in the Prem for that long, but winning the FA Cup goes down in history and if we’re still in the prem at the end of it the club doesn’t suffer either.

So, effectively, what you’re asking by changing the parameters is, win the FA Cup, or not win the FA Cup?
You should have kept the question as it was. At least there was some scope for debate. (Even though survival wins every time)
25 January 2010 at 1:36 am #19533Crazy question !:o
The longer the club stays in the top flight the bigger it becomes and the stronger it becomes.More kids in the future will latch on to us instead of the other local clubs and eventually take their own kids when they grow up.
Relegation is unthinkable for a club our size and the results of this would be far reaching in my view .
Bradford city are a perfect example of what can happen when a small club loses its top flight status.
Be careful what you wish for.25 January 2010 at 1:40 am #19534Although I don’t like the PL and all the razamatazz and hype that goes with it, it is the place to be.
Premier League survival over winning the Cup for me.25 January 2010 at 1:46 am #19535I’d still swap FA Cup for relegation. Where do you really see us getting in the league? I can’t ever see us ever beat Jewells achievement in 05/06. So if you can’t envisage success in the league, hanging on every year is a pretty miserable existance. At least if we won the FA Cup we’d be in the history books.
Sad that the finances of the Premier League seem to have overtaken the glory of winning the FA Cup, and the chance of winning a trophy for teams lower in the table.
Cash is king now even in the eyes of the fans now I suppose.
25 January 2010 at 1:48 am #19536SW – on a post a couple of years ago there really were Latics fans saying they’d take 10th rather than 17th and Carling Cup. Can’t understand that myself.
25 January 2010 at 2:53 am #19546What a crap and pointless post
25 January 2010 at 12:37 pm #19556What a rubbish and pointless postThats official then. I’ll not waste space anymore asking pointless questions about why most Latics fans would seem to prefer scraping by in the Prem than winning the main cup.
I’ve supported Latics for 32 years. I’ll still be there if we get relegated….
