Why must all you darkside people blame Martinez all the time?
Do you not think the players need to take some of the blame?
If you look at many of the problems, they are of our own making with sloppy passing in our own half and failure to track back that leads to goals and these are decisions taken by the players on the field.
Recently Alcaraz has been guilty of these and Figgy needs competition in the left back position to make him wake up! Diame has also made a few stupid passes.
I can’t see that Martinez is teaching them to make short and inaccurate passes on the training field, he is trying to get them to pass and rightfully so but it is down to the player on the fiedl to make the right decision. If you look at what happens when we pump it up, then it’s much less than 50% of the time that we end up retaining possesion.
Muduts did a good article last week and i like him feel it is moving in the right direction from bottom up and yes it is taking longer than i would like to get the first team to “click” but i can also see it is moving forward. We did have a good game on saturday and we were unlucky not to get the right decisions but that happens. Blackburn were far better than Chelsea the week before and still lost. do do happens!
We are Wigan and we are a small team, with a small support base and we have to cut our cloth accordingly (or end up like Portsmouth) bringing in new talent and it is always going to take time for the team to emerge.
If we end up in the Championship then so be it.
But sticking with Bobby is in our long term interest lets just hope he wants to stick with us.

well let me send the first salvo

i’ll tell you why martinez is to blame -its his systems and patterns of play that are losing us the games -you state that “figgy” needs competition so why not give whoever is playing leftback in the reserves a run-or better still get someone who tracks back a bit more playing left midfield instead of the striker who does it now -who might i add also looks like a fish out of water- martinez will not change a system that is clearly poor and everybody in the crowd knows this to many players are out of position or dont know where to be and that is bad coaching.

but this weekend for me summed up the sheer arrogance of martinez – we have a game on wednesday evening that if results go against us could see us go bottom of the league, so did martinez go and watch the team we play to see if he could spot any chinks in their armour or any clues as how to beat them like EVERY manager in football would have done – no martinez chose to go and watch a game in south wales that has absolutley no bearing on our premiership survival.

and that to me is criminal.

for all those who automatically jump to martinez’s defence every time someone -mainly me – says something against him please give me a legitimate defence of what i said in my last paragraph.

        Subjective.

          Surprising yes, but hardly criminal.

Is it me or did Martinez say he was at Cardiff on Sunday for work purposes, for his coaching licenses?

If true why he has to go there i don’t know.

when asked if he was scouting players by the bbc reporter
he said “no,he was working for the FAW on their coaching license scheme” or something very similar –

he thinks that is more important than going to watch liverpool or west brom our next 2 opponents who both played yesterday.

But if the coaching thing was pre-arranged, perhaps before he knew the LiverpoolWBA games would be played on the Sunday, that might give him some wriggle room.

You’d hope that his scoutsstaff were at those games, however.

Of course he needs to be watching Liverpool because they are totally unknown in the world of football. He should have been there to analyse if this Gerrard bloke is any good.

Maybe one day you’ll be able to watch teams like Liverpool in the cinema and get a few clues about how they play.

Sheesh! The day when our manager HAS to be watching Liverpool live before we play them to learn about any chinks in their armour is the day when madness has set in.

At blackburn we had 9million pounds worth of strikers on the bench, doesnt make sense when we dont score enough,

At the risk of ruining a lively discussion, it’s a fact that Assistant Managers do a lot of the ‘scouting’ of opponents, not the Managers themselves. The Managers tend to have contractual commitments, including PR and TV work (football Managers are the public face of a club amongst other things, and are not there to merely pick a team and tell them how to play, hence why they are called a Manager and not a Head Coach)

When Managers get spotted at a game, they appear on TV, because Ferguson sitting next to Moyes makes better TV than Round next to Phelan. There are many occasions when an Assistant Manager is at a game, but you never get to see them on the box at home.

For instance, I know for a fact that there is a representative from Stoke City at the game on Wednesday to scout the Wigan team (and possibly a particular player or two) and it isn’t Tony Pulis. As Stoke aren’t playing, shouldn’t the Manager be there himself?

Sorry for ruining a conspiracy theory and an anti/pro Martinez debate, but it’s a simple fact, and not really a major issue that the Manager is or isn’t at a game. I very much doubt if any other club in the country would be having the same sort of discussion amongst their supporters given the circumstances.
