Why were people booing Gomez after the first 10 minutes?!
Bar the few bad touches that he had early on he was our best player! I’ve always liked him and it is there for all to see that he has class, and now it is his time to show it, as he did on Saturday!
Even in the first half I thought he played well, me and the guy at the side of me (Which I believe to be Scoffy??) were somewhat bemused by the boos at him, it is absolutely ridiculous!
All in all, a well fought performance and thouroughly deserved the 3 points!!

Keep The Faith!
Probably :
Because 1 game doesnt make him a good player
Because he is shite
Because he drives us mad with his slow, backward facing game
Because we expected it to be the same shite he normally serves up
Because if you pay your money, you’re entitled to boo ( not that its right,i never have )
Gomez is having the best season he has had with us IMO.
Did you know we have won every game Gomez has scored in for the last 3 years?
Also last season 10 points were received on the back of Gomez’s goals.
So considering the above and scoring a hat-trick to bag us a happily received three points at the weekend what exactly does he have to do to get people off his back?

Because he is shite No he isn’t
Because he drives us mad with his slow, backward facing game No, he drives you mad
Because we expected it to be the same shite he normally serves up Again, you expect it to be so because of your pre-conceived opinion of him
Because if you pay your money, you’re entitled to boo ( not that its right,i never have )[/quote] Yes you are, but that doesn’t mean it helps anybody except perhaps the person doing the booing
My own opinion of Gomez is that you can see that he has a touch of class about him but in general he can be too slow in speed of movement & thought & although I see his value as a squad player, if everyone is fully fit then he should be a bench player.
That’s just my opinion though & a mate fo mine think’s he’s a class act all round
i think the reason why he gets more stick than other players & why any mistakes he makes are pilloried more than those of other players is that he isn’t one of those players who will “get stuck in where it hurts” – whether that’s actual fact or an impression he gives off is another debate. Some people interpret that aspect of his game as a lack of effort or commitment to the blue & white cause and “we can take a lack of skill but not a lack of effort
It’s happened all the time I’ve been watching Latics & the reason why (off the top of my head) Paul Cook, Gary Teale, Jordi Gomez etc.. have all got plenty of stick off the crowd but the likes of Lee McCulloch & Neil Roberts haven’t

Backward facing game??!! He fed Kone through numerous times with ‘forward’ balls.
Not slating these players, but if you want to talk about a backward facing game look at McCarthy and McArthur! I know they ARE more defensive players but still, they don’t even look forwards! You can’t use that to criticise Gomez as it isn’t true, specially when comparing him to other players!

Any moral high ground you may have felt you had in this thread by criticising those who criticse Gomez disappeared in an instant the moment that you decided to criticise McCarthy & McArthur for somet which quite frankly as much b0ll0x as it is to accuse Gomez of never passing forwards
He can be frustrating in his lack of desire to provide effective defence (opposition must know that there is no fear of being tackled if he is tracking them) but I have never boo’ed him (though members of my family despise him). His vision and passing is very underated though. On Saturday some of his passes were sublime and I still recall the pass for the first goal at the emirates last season – stunningly good and then he followed up with he 2nd goal.
He also did also show (at Arsenal) that he is capable of defending. Which in someways adds to the frustration i sometimes feel.

As i stated in the post I am NOT criticising/slating either of the 2 aforementioned players, but people slate Gomez for things that other players are more guilty of!
Also I wasn’t attempting to take any ‘moral highground’.. Just voicing my opinion.
