Sky sports news yesterday asked
“Why are there so many goals being scored in the premier league this season?”
They asked the Premier League Managers. Who do you reckon came on first?

take away city and salford reds 8-2.it’s the same as any other feckin season. Them 2 are scoring goals at a stupid rate because they have taken on another 400m of debt…………..

Of course they would ask him first. Leaky defences are a major contributory factor in goals scored. And I’m sure you’d be one of the first to say that Martinz does leaky defences.
Caldwell suspended today, I understand, which can’t be a bad thing. Figs at CB with the Dutch lad at LB or Boyce at CB and Lopez at RB?
Who’d be a manager, eh? Oh yeah, everybody on here, of course.

If he plays Figs at CB then I’m joining the darkside. It didn’t work last time. In fact, he was awful in that position.
Boyce and Alcaraz for me and he will probably put Stam at RB. Wouldn’t mind the young Dutch lad playing LB, but doubt it will happen.

No, I didn’t hear it. But as I’ve said many times, I gave up listening to his utterings to the press ages ago as he will never say what he really thinks if there is even the slightest danger he might come across as negative. Not saying he is wrong to take that approach, but it does make it not worth listening to.
Just for clarities sake, though – I don’t think he deliberately sets out to make his defence leaky ;)
I think Stam will get forward more than Boyce and has a bit more pace. Might get caught out defensively, but hey, Boyce at CB more than compensates. We’ve looked a bit unbalanced on the right this season and slow to break, so maybe Stam could offer something to fix this. I love to see Boyce getting forward, but he’s no spring chicken.
In the spurs game martinez stumbled on what looked to be the perfect defensive(if not full team) line up, spurs had ripped the flat back four to shreds in the first half and at half time he brought stam on for the useless ineffective gomez and went 3 at the back gohouri, caldwell & and figueroa, with stam and PVA operating as wing backs.
It looked spot on and with mccarthy and watson holding in the middle it allowed diame to get forward more to support di santo and moses and we cut out the spurs forward threat and stam and pva were getting into great positions and spurs were having to defend for the first time in the game, all was going well until gohouri got sent off.
For this short 20 minute spell I honestly thought we had found our best system for the rest of the season, further suspensions and injuries prevented martinez from repeating that system for a couple of games but why has it not been tried since especially away from home and the most baffling question for me is:- what has happened to PVA ? no reports of any injuries, so where is he?
