Why does Martinez have to accept defeat before a game has started, all he does is talk about how good the opposition are, in this case City. Does he tell the team before a game that its pointless playing the game as the team we are facing are far, far better than us and we cannot possibly expect to win or get anywhere near them? He probably does not even give the team talk, just sits in his little office letting Jonesy and the more senior guys in the team do it, just hoping the day passes by without him being sacked. Just have a read of his comments about ‘how city beat united in the second half, 2-0 with ten men telling you more than the score line’ – it doesn’t Bobby, united won. End of. Does he think Mancini was happy because his team won the second half? Utter, utter drivel from a Manager so inept and ineffective in this league, anyway, here are his actual comments, make of it what you will, however I know some of you will just well up and gush about how he has football principles that cant be changed. Wake up, the man is clueless. He even says in his last statement what effect his consistently sucking up to the big teams has….

Martinez, who travelled to the Etihad to watch their 3-2 loss to United, said: “It would be a big mistake to under-estimate them.
“To come back from 3-0 down and beat Manchester United 2-0 in the second-half, with 10 men – that tells you more than the scoreline sometimes.
“They probably finished that game mentally stronger than they started it.
They are very strong in their squad. They have fresh players and that can give you and extra edge and makes them dangerous.”David Silva is tipped to return after a two-week injury lay-off.
Martinez is a huge admirer of the work Mancini has done since taking charge of City – and says their success can not just be put down to splashing the cash.“What Roberto Mancini and Manchester City have done have put together a team of the best individuals in world football,” he said. “But there are exceptional harmonies – they are not a group of individuals, and that is one of the hardest things to achieve in football.
“They have a great winning mentality. City deserve the label of being title favourites because they started with unbelievable momentum, playing breathtaking football. You look at what they have done and it’s phenomenal.”
Martinez, though, will put the emphasis of his side’s preparations on their own performance. “When you play against the top sides you need to concentrate on yourselves,” he said.
“We need to go into the game with real focus. We need the points and we need to go into the game with real belief, and replicate the level of performance that we showed (in the draws) against Liverpool and Chelsea at home last month.
“You can look at the opposition too much and you can weaken yourselves.”
16 January 2012 at 12:11 pm #78322He got that habit of Whelan, everytime we play ManUre Whelans pr match arse-licking makes me want to puke.
16 January 2012 at 2:55 pm #78329might be because when those team’s stuff us 4 or 5 nil
he can say he was right by what he said
only time the clown gets it right16 January 2012 at 3:20 pm #78334Im sure some players see this as already accepting defeat .Cant see Pullis,Hughes,Lambert etc.etc constantly talking up the opposition before such a huge game. Also his comments today about Rodallega ,”Hugo has it in his dna to rise to the big occasion. It is in his nature to relish these games against top sides, and has done it again and again.” In our predicament arent they all big games ? Wouldnt mind him turning in a shift in some of the “less important games “!!! And isnt Mr Whelan’s silence deafening considering his volume of comments concerning everyone elses business .Still i think we might grab a result tonight and hopefully it will act as a catalyst for the rest of the season.
16 January 2012 at 3:25 pm #78335Tbf Jewell was a master at bummin up the opposition anarl.
16 January 2012 at 3:26 pm #78336Alright lads. Is university shut for the day?
Get over it – they all do it:

Football management is a small industry where they need to a form a relationship with other managers in order to do things like getting loan players.
If you were in a pre-match interview and were asked to comment about Manchester City – what would you say? (bearing in mind it’s not a multiple choice selection – like on a Football Manager computer game)
Which of Martinez’s statements are incorrect?
16 January 2012 at 3:32 pm #78341I’d hazard a guess that it’s because, like it or not, the national media who turn up to Latics’ press conferences ask him questions about the opposition because they know full well that their readers/listeners/viewers want to know/hear about City/United/Liverpool/Tottenham/Arsenal/whoever the majority of Latics’ games are against rather than hear what he has to say about Wigan Athletic.
If someone asks him about how good he thinks Man City are he’s hardly gonna turn round & say that they’re $h!te is he.
Likewise if a paper has a small column to fill or a TV/radio station has a 30 second segment to fill they are more likely to fill it with what he has to say about the opposition than him talking about filling the void left by Diame’s departure to AfricaWhat Bobby doesn’t do is openly talk about having written these types of games off as Paul Jewell used to do, which you really could see reflected in the performances (at times)
16 January 2012 at 3:32 pm #78342dont think whelan is interested anymore
is he still on holiday or is he back home ,only time we hear him these days is when he puts his nose in someone else’s buisness
think he is senile demented anyway16 January 2012 at 3:35 pm #78343Sorry Brownbill, didn’t see your post.
As I said, they all do it:

It’s exactly that Tyldesley.
Some of the people on this board would rather he say all opposition were shyte, and ruin any relationship he may have with any other manager in the league.
If he did that, and we were thumped five-nil, they’d be first on here ridiculing him for saying we were going to beat them.
16 January 2012 at 3:42 pm #78347They all do it selectively ,not before every “top Team ” game.At least his pre game interviews are acceptable his post game ones after a defeat are laughable.Lets hope we dont have to listen to many more.

‘We were crap and the players aren’t good enough’, then expect them to turn up for training on Monday raring to go?
If Arsenal or Man Utd lose, do Wenger or Ferguson blame their players? No, they blame the referee or whatever other straws they can clutch at.
Martinez on the other hand tries to put a positive spin on it as his players need a confidence boost, and to be frank, he’s also putting himself in the shop window.
It’s all psychological dressage – and little of it is aimed at Mr Brownbill sat in front of his telly screen.
The Martinez haters can have a go at tactics, lack of attacking play, poor defence etc, but picking fault with pre and past match interviews is the laughable bit.

at least they know what they are doing and are good at what they doLadies and gentlemen of the jury, the defence would like to display to you exhibit A.
16 January 2012 at 6:38 pm #78363Firstly id rather hear the truth Mcarthy ,Warnock style instead of the “we are suffering from negative dynamics” crap.Telling us after every defeat how we exuded “great maturity “.How after countless humpings “we had the lions share of possession but didn’t get what we deserved”, A lot of friends who support other teams have been commenting for a while about how comical his ramblings have become.I have it from good authority that Robbie spends hours on end studying the opposition and tactics and for that i have great admiration. I was informed the only criticism was that he is too easy on the players therefore the tv interviews can only compound this.I am not anti Robbie just anti seeing my club regularly humiliated.
