Wigan boss Roberto Martinez faces crunch talks with his chairman Dave Whelan today.

Martinez wants to bring in two strikers, but Whelan is more keen to discuss plans for the defence after Wigan conceded 18 goals in the last three games.

The Spaniard’s future could possibly be on the line if Whelan does not receive the right answers.

The Wigan boss is hoping to tie up a deal for Mexico World Cup striker Guillermo Franco today.

Martinez spoke to the former West Ham player over the weekend and wants to sign him, along with Chelsea striker Franco Di Santo on loan, in a double deal to beef up his attack.

Martinez made both moves before the 6-0 Chelsea thrashing left his team exposed at the back once again. The deals come within his budget.

However, hands-on Whelan is more worried about the defence. And in a further setback, Wigan left-back Maynor Figueroa may have damaged ankle ligaments, putting him out for weeks.

Whelan faces a big decision on Martinez before the end of the month and the closing of the transfer window. Rumours of a move for old boss Paul Jewell are growing.

Jewell was at the match as a TV pundit and would be Whelan’s choice if an SOS call needed to be made in the near future.

Bookie William Hill make Martinez favourite to be next Premier League manager sacked.

Hill spokesman Graham Sharpe said: “Martinez heads the market after Wigan’s increasingly lengthy line of drubbings at the end of last season and the beginning of this.

“Ownership concerns have seen Alex McLeish’s odds shorten. West Ham’s less-than-impressive start has cut Avram Grant’s too.”

Guillermo Franco supposed to be Joining us today, And Paul Jewell might be called back into replace Martinez :)

If we can bring in a young defender .. a CB we would be sorted for a few years, but we always buy middle age players in defence.

Danny Redmond (who’s a left back) is coming through the ranks and looks like he could well cope with playing at Hartlpool on Tuesday.

We have Boyce, Gohouri and Stam at Right Back and both of them will be playing for Wigan for years to come.

      Franco? Give me strength.

If Martinez only plays 1 up front, what’s the point in buying 2 new strikers when he has a perfectly good one on the left wing.

We have conceded ten goals in two games, surely it’s the defence we need to ‘beef up?’

However, you defend as a team, and although the back four has been awful, the rest of teh team haven’t defended responsibly either.

And bringing back Jewell wouldn’t be the answer for me. Yes, I love him (not in a gay way) for what he did for the club, and it would be a fairytale story if he could save us. But I don’t think he’ll bring the glory days back, probably best stick with the memories eh? And move on.

The defence doesn’t lack personnel, it just has no organisation and a lack of support from midfield.

We do need another striker or two, to give us a bit of strength in depth, but Guillermo Franco!? A 33 year old, released by West Ham. That should tell you all you need to know.

 I thought someone might pick up on that.

Well because after losing to Chelsea 8-0, Blackpool 4-0 and then again Chelsea 6-0. I need strength at the minute!
