28 December 2011 at 2:13 am #76485But he doesn’t support his local team – he’s glory-hunted a Premier League team.
If you pick Wigan Athletic as your Premier League team of choice I don’t think you can, by any stretch of the imagination, be accused of glory-hunting.

For me I blame live television of the Prem not just now but the beginning in 92 a whole generation of potential supporters have been lost in that era .Who would watch a Wigan V Hartlepool on a winters day at Springy when you could be at home watching the big 3 at the time Liverpool ,United and at that time Leeds ,couple with the endless winning of cups from them men of peanut hugging fame it was hard being a tics fan but the fan base as risen and hope fully will continue to do so
28 December 2011 at 2:36 am #76488There are tons of Utd ‘fans’ all over Wigan and i have rarely met any that EVER go to live matches never mind the odd game!
Hingley is also home to stacks of Wigan RL dont forget so i would assume a few of them were present also as they love all things Latics dont they??????????
Never classed Hindley as part of Wigan anyway -a town on its own like Ashton!28 December 2011 at 2:42 am #76489Anonymous
I remember one time years ago when latics were on tv and rugby was on the same time in the raven if i remember reet .Stood next to this old chap watching the game and a lad I knew from work got all irate that rugby wasn’t on and stormed out of the pub .Old chap says to me a chubbie and a united fan the worse combination placed upon a human sole
28 December 2011 at 3:55 am #76491a chubbie and a united fan the worse combination placed upon a human sole  :ohmy:An unrivaled glory-hunting double whammy if ever there was one!
28 December 2011 at 4:52 pm #76513I was at this pub and most of em definitely were chubsters.
I spoke to one guy and told him I couldn’t place his accent and asked him what part of Manchester he was from, his mate laughingly shouted “Bamber Bridge”.
I’m from Hindley and I’m embarrassed to say it has always been like this, even one of my brothers is a chubster/Latics/Whelan hater.28 December 2011 at 6:21 pm #76518Said in context i.e. we did have a team but not a proper one, like one in the league even if it’s fourth division rather than a non-league tinpot team the town had until 1978 so they weren’t worth supporting. Is it just me that finds that whole paragraph alittle bit ignorant?
Not a proper club? Tinpot club?
What a proud supporter you are.
28 December 2011 at 8:52 pm #76522Hindley is a Manchester overspill as well as a Wigan one, and its quite likely that you will come across Man U and Man C fans in th town – after all its only 13 miles as the crow flies from Hindley to Old Trafford – not much more than it is to the DW.

You could not hand pick a new football franchise and place it in a worse position than Wigan. Its getting like post war Berlin only its not the Yanks and Russians who control half each its the Mancs and Scoucers ;) ;)

I don’t agree with that…. most of the people i work with are from Hindley and so are theyre familys from generations ago and they still follow teams from other towns
maybe in Hindley Green, its full of scousers so people my age whos parents came over in the 60’s or whenever follow liverpool clubs.
one of our biggest problems was Noblot building that eyesore in Horwich, so close to Hindley and Aspull, it should of been built further over towards Farnworth or Manchester they can afford competition for fans we can’t, especially when they were already in the prem or at least a damb sight closer then we were.

Oh..I do apologies for not login in everyday to reply to the likes of you.
I assume by your complete side step of the contents of my reply, you now agree that you was ignorant and wish to distance yourself from this obvious own goal?
29 December 2011 at 4:23 am #76548Slower than I thought, slow as in of those people that don’t do context or irony.
29 December 2011 at 4:07 pm #76549Hindley is a Manchester overspillThat’s the biggest load of bollocks I have ever heard even you spout on here. In the 70s we got quite a few scousers in – and they’re still there to be honest. But as for a huge influx of Mancs in Hindley/Hindley Green, it’s just plain wrong.
There’s plenty of Incers who moved there to better themselves, though.
29 December 2011 at 4:35 pm #76550after all its only 13 miles as the crow flies from Hindley to Old Trafford – not much more than it is to the DW.I take it geography isn’t your best subject.
