30 December 2011 at 1:47 pm #76593We need to get these kids to somehow choose Latics. Other than win a trophy, I’m not sure how we do it.
You cant. If they want to follow the Latics, they will.
Hindley (and Hindley Green) is part of the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan, of which the population is approx 350,000. When talking about crowds, some on here are very quick to only compare Wigan’s population with Blackburn and say the population is only approx 70,000 (town figure) and the “Borough” figure doesnt count – otherwise 13,000 followers out of 350,000 population doesnt compare very well with Blackburn, Burnley etc who get roughly 25% of their population following their local football side.
So you can hardly bleat when the people in the outskirts of the Borough choose to follow more established, more popular, more successful teams, that they and their forefathers have been following for generations. Probably in the likes of Hindley, Hindley Green & Tyldesly, the people who are in their 40s, 50s and 60s now didnt even know there was a football club in Wigan in the 1960s and 1970s, and why should they – they had top-flight teams such as Man U, Man C and Bolton all within spitting distance – in those days you’d only find the Latics’ results in the Wigan Observer the following Thursday.
Stop trying to be something bigger than you are and then you may just find peace of mind.

That’s the biggest load of bollocks I have ever heard even you spout on here. In the 70s we got quiet a few scousers in – and they’re still there to be honest. But as for a huge influx of Mancs in Hindley/Hindley Green, it’s just plain wrong.
There’s plenty of Incers who moved there to better themselves, though.
Since when did anyone from Ince better themselves!
Since my old man man moved from West Street, Higher Ince to Hindley Green and spawned me. There’s one example for you.
Tongue was firmly planted in cheek with my post, but there’s no smiley for that.
I spent the first year of my life in West Street. My old man didn’t move quite as far as Hindley though and I then spent 18 years growing up in Higher Ince. Went to school in Hindley if that counts?
31 December 2011 at 12:30 am #76613Mr Magoo has obviously never heard of the football pink??

31 December 2011 at 1:33 pm #76628Mr Magoo has obviously never heard of the football pink??Heard of it? I used to deliver it at about 6pm on a Saturday night! But I wasnt aware it was available in the suburbs and I can remember reports but they were generally first half ones only. As the amateur leagues kick off much earlier (due to lack of floodlights), of course their results were in.
31 December 2011 at 1:38 pm #76629Thank fook you are a clerk, and deal on a daily basis with allowances, and not on the front-line.errrrm!…………Retard.

31 December 2011 at 3:00 pm #76632I cant believe how many views and replies this pointless thread has received !! Who gives a fuck if someone from your town supports one of the neighbouring ” Billy Big Bollocks “. The thing is these people are not real football fans and rarely go to watch live matches anyway, so I wouldn’t get too upset about it !
31 December 2011 at 3:05 pm #76633And as for the peanut huggers we have residing on our land, well they have taken to copying Liverpool for their songs !!
What the fuck is all that about ????
31 December 2011 at 3:23 pm #76636I cant believe how many views and replies this pointless thread has received !!I don’t think it is a pointless thread at all. At least it’s prompted some half decent responses for a change compared to the usual drivel that’s posted on here.
31 December 2011 at 4:05 pm #76639Its been done to death and the word hackneyed springs to mind yawn yawn !!
31 December 2011 at 4:30 pm #76642No more hackneyed that all the other threads on here, but on an issue that is understandably often debated because we struggle to fill our stadium.
31 December 2011 at 4:50 pm #76643Go to any North West town with a football club and you will find a plethora of ” Billy Big Bollocks ” fans !! Even the city of Preston is rife with them !! Like I said, they are not football fans anyway !!
31 December 2011 at 5:35 pm #76646It would appear the people that think this thread is pointless or are uncomfortable with it are the ones that don’t live in the town or have switched allegiance at some stage.
Not living in the town and supporting Wigan is only the same as someone from Wigan supporting Man Utd. I have no problem with these people, long may it last. They’ll be Wigan til they die. That is unless/until they switch allegiance. However, I find the whole concept of this as being impossible. Once your club’s in your blood, it’s there forever. If it isn’t, it was never your club in the first place. You can at best be adopted. No soft spots for other clubs, no caring about who wins a game if your club isn’t involved (unless it directly affects your club), your club’s yours forever, for better or for worse.
Easier to change your woman.
