There is too much knee-jerking and twisting going on over on C&W even for an egg-chasing fan like me. Some people seem to have it as a foregone conclusion that the tie will be elsewhere – I’m ashamed to say that I get the feeling these pillocks want it to happen just to hate DW.
I’ll reserve judgement, but I’d be surprised if Wigan v Saints isnt at the DW on 12 May – as Landgate has said, there’s no rule to stop it.
2 May 2012 at 1:11 am #86391I can’t see Whelan agreeing to a Saturday afternoon kick-off for the rugby and the BBC have it down as exactly as that.
He won’t take the risk of having to play on a dodgy pitch, especially if it’s been bucketing down, with Latics possibly having to win or draw that game to stay in the Prem.
2 May 2012 at 1:12 am #86392if the two biggest clubs in rugby league end up playing a quarter final on a neutral ground, then i think it shows up what an amateur sport it really is.
the rfl or whatever they are called have known since 16th june LAST YEAR that latics are at home to wolves on 13 may….they must have realised when they did their scheduling of their PREMIER cup competition, that wigan rl had a very good chance of being involved, and a 50/50 chance they would get drawn at home…
rubbish sport, run by buffoons who change their format every season, then tell everyone “its the best game in the world”

He will. This is Whelan we are talking about here, £££££££ from the BBC. Don’t see the big deal myself. The rugby will play a day before. What difference does it make. You lot are that sad you are having a go at a cup draw in a different sport that makes no difference to your lives or the outcome of Wigan Athletic vs Wolves.
Really really need to get a life.

££££££ from the BBC for a rugby league game as opposed to the ££££££ from staying in the Premier League? Yes I’m sure Whelan is seriously considering that.

£40 million Prem money as opposed to £50 grand BBC money I suppose the other £39 ,999.950 could be made up in pie sales and a increase in the rent or maybe put on a extra mild pump in the concourse
2 May 2012 at 10:45 am #86405Missing the point. He doesn’t have to choose. No way will he turn free money down.
2 May 2012 at 11:29 am #86406Am I missing something here, doesn’t Lenagan own the Rugby?
Whelan wouldn’t get any more than his normal rent, how would he get a share of TV revenuue?
2 May 2012 at 11:56 am #86409I noticed this morning on their cherryandwhite message board they are still peddling the myth about the stadium being a joint warriors/Latics venture and that they paid the bulk of the costs by selling Central Park.
2 May 2012 at 9:51 pm #86433The sale of Central Park paid off their crippling debts did it not ?
Obviously they will have put something into the stadium construction – not sure how much – but it was planned, and had already started being built when they came on board.
Even the JJB was being built i remember Jack Robinson on the front of the WEP saying they’d be building a new ground of their own too.
2 May 2012 at 10:24 pm #86435Whelan is happy for it to be played on Friday, its not his fault they contractually cannot play it within 24 hours of our game. Some good comments at the bottom of this article.
2 May 2012 at 11:53 pm #86449There is no reason why the warriors cant play Saturday at the dw!
The FA do not allow the rugby to play less then 24 hours before a premiership football match. They’d have to get up pretty early to get around that one!
This is not true!
Dont know how do that copy and paste thing, put take a look at wigan today, whelan has said he has no problem with the chubbies playing on pitch saturday and urged lenagan to fight all the way to get the game played there, the prem league dont allow the game so close to a prem league clash3 May 2012 at 1:47 am #86474Anonymous
Lowtonlatic comment no 27 that man should be ashamed of his self
3 May 2012 at 1:59 am #86475Lowtonlatic comment no 27 that man should be ashamed of his selfContrary to what he is saying i’d say that long live Uncle Dave, and that if anything it is their whole sport that is dying.

and in the spirit of co-operation, I would like to put my thanks on record to DW for his support of Wigan Warriors, particularly over this fiasco.
Good luck in your last two games latics.
