The Brighton defeat followed the break for international games. It also preceded a Europa League game.
Despite their success after Europa League games, Wigan have now lost three of the four league games before them. They did win before the trip to Kazan, but went on to lose in Russia. They returned to gain an away victory at Yeovil. What a topsy-turvy season it has been so far.
Coyle now has to plan for the next two home games – against Zulte Waregem and then Derby – as well as the demanding programme in December. Both of our next opponents are in good form and each will give us a good game. I don’t think we can take qualification for the Europa League for granted.
I expect Holt to start on Thursday and Fortune on Sunday. Otherwise, I’m finding it difficult to predict – and understand – Coyle’s selections. We may well see some players return from injury, as well as a new loan signing.
