In all honesty tonight, despite the seemingly close scoreline, Wigan were never in the game. Villa always looked like they could raise their game, and give that little bit extra.
If Darren Bent had put that early chance away, and to be fair he really should have, I think it may have ended 3 or 4-1.
Villa players had time to slip on the ball, and keep possession.
The best things about Latics tonight were the performances of McCarthy and McCarthur. As long as we keep them, they can be the best midfield next season. In the Championship.26 January 2011 at 2:33 am #56825We were the best team for the first half.
Not much created but we had something more about us.
I want him gone but let’s be honest and not get dragged down to the light side bull siht they come out with, fair is fair.

Could, and really SHOULD, have been a goal down early doors, when Bent had that chance.
Best team were we? How many shots and chances did we have?26 January 2011 at 2:41 am #56831Shots and chances more than Villa.
Even their big money signing did nothing against the worst centre back in the league.

According to BBC, Wigan 8 on target, Villa 10 on target; Wigan 11 off target, Villa 1 off target.26 January 2011 at 2:44 am #56840We were the best team for the first half.

17 Shots (6 on target …….11 off)
82% tackling success
55% possession……. and
53% territorial advantage.Speak for themselves really…..
It’s not about how many, Vat, it’s about converting them – that’s what wins games.

Ok, i recall the goal, obviously, and that Hugo Rod shot that went just wide…but apart from that, I can’t recall Brad Friedel (AKA Griff  ) doing much.
Al habsi made several world class saves……again. Pity Baghdad had a better defence.

When you’re on stage do you sing “19th Nervous Breakdown?”
26 January 2011 at 1:22 pm #56938To say we were never in the game last night shows how little you know. First half we were easily on a par with them and actually played some good stuff AND actually created chances.
Two stupid mistakes gave them a two goal lead and yet I still ended the game disappointed that we hadn’t got an equaliser.
Never in the game ? , get real !!!
