Took younger granddaughter yesterday and loved every minute. Total commitment and passion shown from both sides. Yes I know the standard is way below the top women’s teams but we’ve only just started the journey. After the passionless first 60 mins I witnessed on Saturday (not the only occasion this season) Sundays event was so refreshing for me. No egos,no over analysing, no pass to death tactics just women playing football for the love of the game. Everyone of them proud to wear the Wigan Athletic shirt. Great goalkeeping performance from Amelia Knowles who pulled off several saves Tickle would have been proud of and to Ellie Cleary for banging in all 4 goals. Blackburn reserves had won 10 out of 10 ,us 8 from 8 so a great scalp.Again well done to them and Boyce who looks like he enjoyed it as much as we did.
There’s a time and a place for women’s football, I’ve nothing against it what so ever but my view is, at a club like Wigan that after 3 takeovers and the owner hasn’t backed his manager and won’t part with a fart it’s a rub your nose in it watching money filter elsewhere.
I wonder if the Hughes money funded them ?
Why the hell shouldn’t we have a women’s team every other club has. I’ve been following their progress from day 1 and hope to start going soon. I wish people would stop slagging off the owners yes things are tight but ffs we were in dire straits and facing oblivion. Let’s wait till we get back to being stable and then see if the promise to kick on by the said owners materialises. The ticesses have Blackburn again on Sunday this time away and if we can win that one we will be level on points with 2 games in hand. Keep going Boycie and the girls. Up the tics and ticesses

Were have I said or infact anyone said we should never have a women’s football team ? I certainly haven’t,
my argument is the timing and the cost at a time when we’re we’ve been asked to pay towards the youth system. Then theres the manager who has been given pittance to strengthen after 17 players, mainly experienced players left and further cuttbacks we now open 1 turnstile. I just feel as a club we’ve a closed wallet by the owner especially with the 1st team squad,
Then on the other hand we say:-
Let’s start a women’s football team !.Even if Danson is funding this himself not a problem, it’s his money, but it’s abit rich when were looming at the L2 trapdoor to give with one hand and take away with the other Peter to pay Paul comes to mind.
For me having a women’s side is a great idea but in our clubs case it’s the wrong climate and timing for me that money could be spent elsewhere, I feel that after we’ve just had 2 turbulent awful overspending owners and the new owner says we need to be self sufficient? I’ve no problem with that either as well but will the women’s side ever become “self sufficient” or require funding and from were ?.
And now I’ve read we are about to be force fed unity and asked to join hands with the rugby.
Iim sorry but I have literally have no interest in rugby what so ever thanks.I’m a Wigan Athletic football fan not a Wigan town fan. Next we’ll have half half scarfs or change the club badge like DW tried
I am also Not really interested in any of this pointless PR bull**** , women’s teams, all hold hands with the chubs , one town , joint season tickets blah blah blah !
It in my view it just deflects things away from the main problem facing Latics at the moment and we all know what it is.
Let’s face it , this team of kids are a reserve team that are being asked to play and compete at the third highest standard in the English pyramid and without some serious input in the January transfer window are very likely going to be at the foot of the fourth tier in one years time.
No PR or deflecting is going to change that very simple fact and there really is only one issue for me.
Get the team sorted and fast please !!!At the end of the day the main concern should be the 1st and youth team both in the league, it’s results & performances, if you get that right then everything around will grow on and off the field.
Other interest outside of those 2 just deflects from the task at hand. It’s ok calling it the Brick Stadium and a women’s side but of those are 2 lost revenues especially at a time when were constantly been told we have to become “self sufficient”.
I hope in the summer money from the sale of Tickle goes straight into the first team otherwise this clubs a floating ghost ship going no were.I was always of the thought that this season was to build a side and prepare for a push in the 2025-2026 season but looking at the way we’re operating again both on and off the pitch that won’t be happening and won’t be for the foreseeable future.
