10 December 2010 at 11:34 am #52933Each to their own, given half the choice I would have loved to have been a Man U fan, they wouldnt have to put up with the abuse that fans get on this site and god forbid we area welcoming bunch….. We start to grow our fan base and instantly they get labelled JCL’s that dont know any better.
Would you choose this?
Most people dont get a choice who they go support, but it enriches their lives to be ‘tagged’ with a successful team.
10 December 2010 at 3:16 pm #52935On the flip side to this, how many non wiganers support the Latics.
I was born and bred in Chorley, but have been watching the Latics since about 1966/7.
Our group of fans when we all go amounts to about 10, and not one of us comes from Wigan.10 December 2010 at 9:02 pm #52945yer a disgrace horc,….

I think I made the right choice, but then again I didn’t get a choice.
My Dad and Grandad were both Latics fans and my older brother, so I wasn’t going to go anywhwere else.I have been on Victory Park a few times, always supporting the Latics though.
I have to confess I did also go to one of their Cup games once, I was pressured in to it by our games teacher at school (Alan Spence) he was their Manager at the time.It wasn’t good, and I never went again.

Our group of fans when we all go amounts to about 10, and not one of us comes from Wigan.Does that include the Leyland Massive !! :)
11 December 2010 at 2:27 am #52962I don’t even have the choice of supporting my local team any more which was Leyland Motors AFC. a town the size of Leyland does not even a proper football team any more(SHOCKING). Before some muppet posts that PNE are my Local team, no there not, I was born at home in Leyland.Nob End are no more my local team then say Chorley or Bamber Bridge are.

It most definitley does. The Leyland massive are well and truly a major part of my ‘match day experience’.
Are you not a closet Motors fan? (Not the band btw)
11 December 2010 at 12:54 pm #52985as a kid most of my mates supported the rugby & if they did support a football team, it was usually either (yawn, yawn) liverpool or man utd. in fact, i was probably THE only latics supporter in the whole of my school. i used to get loads of stick & that was just from the teachers until we merged with st johns in about 1981 & one of their teachers was a latics fan & all we ever did was talk latics.
the other problem is the wigan born people who are born to scousers who emigrated to wigan in the 70’s & 80’s. nturally they will follow in their parents footsteps & support either liverpool or everton. hence the reason why i’m doing my damdest to get my little un to follow latics rather than the 2 scouse teams.11 December 2010 at 2:56 pm #52989On the flip side to this, how many non wiganers support the Latics.

11 December 2010 at 5:00 pm #52993My first ever game watching football was Liverpool v Man City when players like Tommy Lawrence, Roger Hunt played this was due to the fact that my dad was an egg chasing gob shoite who never went to a footy match so someone took me instead. A few years later when i was old enough to go on my own i went to watch my local club one evening after school. I became hooked immediately and had no choice in who was my team, Liverpool and City didnt stir me whatsoever but Wigan Athletic grabbed me by the heart the throat and the bo..ox and have had hold of me ever since. As for the glory hunters well my club has given me more glory than most fans will ever experience so i dont give a toss.

Our group of fans when we all go amounts to about 10, and not one of us comes from Wigan. My lad certainly qualifies. I may have been born and bred in Ince, but his 12 years have all been spent in Buckinghamshire. He’s had a season ticket since 2003/04 season. Anyone who thinks it was hard at school in Wigan as a Latics fan should try it down here with all the Arsenal, Spurs and Chelsea scum. He’s never once hidden who he supports and never, ever considered changing teams.
When he was about eight he got into a few fights at school. It seems every day when he had his Latics hat on the other kids would nick it and throw it around. I suggested wearing a plain hat, but he wouldn’t have it.
“I’ll keep wearing this, it means I get to hit Chelsea fans when they pinch it”.
Oh and there seemed to be loads of out of town fans at the Emirates. Young Winston sat next to me had never been to Plat Waz, or had a babies yed and pey wet. ;)
