In the last few days Stevie Greed announced he was to leave The Reds after umpteen years. Umpteen years of screwing his club to the ground for more and more money. This time around enough is enough for the club and they are not playing ball with poor Stevie Greed. So that is it, he is off. Not off down the training ground to motivate youngsters. Not off to Tranmere or Southport or even Latics to generate support for local clubs, no it’s off to the USA for even more millions. Good luck to Stevie Greed, why not if you can get it but personally I would have a lot more respect for him and others if he did take the other options mentioned.
Also good luck to the fan owned club of AFC Wimbledon not just tonight against the Big Boys of Liverpool but for their future. Amazing what these fans have done for their club over the years. Ironically tonights match with gate and TV rights will net £255,000 for The Dons which is a fifth of The Dons annual income and on and around Stevie Greeds weekly wage. So that puts Wimbledons annual turnover at around Stevie Greeds monthly pay packet. Personally to me each one of the fans of The Dons that have resurrected and reshaped their club are worth ten Stevie Greeds because their contribution to the game has been about giving and not just taking out of it every penny you can. Good luck Dons.6 January 2015 at 1:57 am #137857In the last few days Stevie Greed announced he was to leave The Reds after umpteen years. 6 January 2015 at 3:07 am #137861Sorry but all I can remember about the lad is his whinging face and him holding the club to ransom each time his contract was due.
Actually I was just pointing out the massive inequalities in the modern game.6 January 2015 at 4:15 am #137863I personally thought it pathetic that his “loyalty” to his local team was more a result of threats made by a local gangster if he left. He’s wanted to leave a few times, and you can see the exasperation on his face at having to slave away for another quarter of a million a week. Also, he should never have been allowed near the England team who would have been considerably better off not touching the overrated likes of Gerard and Lampard with a barge poke instead of misguidedly trying to accommodate both.
6 January 2015 at 10:13 am #137864Steven Gerrard has donated several six figure sums to Alderhey Children’s Hospital. In addition he donated over £500k from his testimonial.
If these donations gave only one child a better life, or even in some cases a life at all for numerous other kids, everything the lad has done is worthwhile.
Hardly the act of a greedy man.

My sentiments exactly and I typed much the same last night before deleting it for fear of being accused of a being on a Donny witch-hunt.
I am no big Gerrard fan but the above is the biggest load of nonsense since the last time Donny posted something

And even if he hadn’t done that, is he the first/only player to ever negotiate himself big contracts with a football club? I’m sure Liverpool have been gutted to have had to put up with such a useless twat for all those long 18 years.

6 January 2015 at 1:03 pm #137882Respect to anyone that gives to charity or anyone worse off but usually large donations are made by people that have it to spare and are rarely truly altruistic acts. Gerrard giving away six figure sums is a bit like me donating a tenner to Comic Relief. That’s not having a pop at Gerrard per se, that’s just the way it is.

So for your tenner to match his £100k donation means you must be on £15 per week. I suspect you’re not. ;)
I get your point, but it isn’t actually the same. And even if he isn’t on megabucks, he still didn’t have to do it.

” And even if he isn’t on megabucks ” ? Around £7.8m a year plus endorsements!! If that ain’t megabucks then I don’t know what is! :silly:

Would it have been easier for you to understand if I’d said “if he wasn’t on megabucks”? But, either way, I think the point I was trying to make was fairly obvious.

So after tax, Gerrard draws £75k PER WEEK. That’s around £320k PER MONTH. And he’s been on this kind of money for 10 years or so? Fair play to him for donating as he does but it is only a minute part of his worth. He doesn’t miss the money one bit and it’s a massive PR boost to boot.
Apologies for being cynical, and I may be very wide of the mark in Gerrard’s particular case, but charitable donations, appearances and endorsements do wonders for careers and upward mobility.

Seriously?
