Helps when the referee gives you a penalty in the last minute for nothing
And decides to let your keeper stay on the pitch when probably 90% of other refs would have sent him for an early bath ! ;)[/quote]
I saw the two decisions on SSN last night when I got back from the game.
I thought Latics penalty was a penalty & just as much of one as Sunday’s. Perch makes a meal of it though with flailing arms as he goes down but for my money it was teh correct decision
Didn’t have the best view fo Al Habsi’s foul in the ground & said at the time that the only thing I could think why he hadn;t walked was that he’d taken the ball too wide & wouldn’t have been able to get a shot in. He did probably knock it a little wider than he’d wanted but if he’d been able to stay on his feet he’d have had a pretty simple job if just turning it in. Rosler said we had a covering defender but there’s no way he’d have been able to get back & either tackle the player or block any shot.
A very odd decision but we needed it coz ugly is too kind a word to describe that performance. Still 3 points is 3 points & those types of games often come on the back of the type of performance they produced on Sunday

Agree with Tyldesley that the fact that the ball/player were going away from goal helped Ali, but don’t agree with him about our penalty – softest penalty I’ve seen in a long while. Would have been very unhappy if that had gone against us.
We did strangle them with the penalty but I’ve no complaints, there’s been loads of times when we’ve been on the receiving end.
Two other things of note from last night – the ‘new’ Jordi Gomez really bust a gut and covered every blade of grass. I think a certain new manager may have had a word and told him how much better he could be if he stepped up a gear. He was tracking back, tackling (sometimes a little clumsily), involved in everything and all the better for it.
The other thing is Boycey has a doppelganger. Wednesday’s 17 (same as Boycey) Helan was an on-pitch ringer for him. Same height, build, running style, the lot. Same number of letters on his shirt that could read anything from a distance for failing eyes. Not as good as Boycey though :)
Wigan certainly found it difficult to make openings against Wednesday last night.
But this changed when McManaman and Powell came on. Then McManaman started to take on and beat his man and Powell started running through on goal. Wigan had a dominant spell, opening up Wednesday and creating shooting chances. The penalty came during this spell.
While the majority of the game may have been ‘ugly’, the goal came during a period of good football.
I’m not interested whether it was a penalty or sending off, it was nice walking off the ground with a crowd of smiling faces, knowing all to well that we didn’t deserve jack shyte from that game.
All opinions on those decisions go out the window, I have checked the league table and we got 3 points last night, so lets move on with our chests out and focus on the tractor boys. :)
Was it a good game last night. I was in work so only got the score on teletext. Judging by some of the comments i gather it was a hard graft of a match.
