Released from Spurs. Stoke are offering him a pay-as-you-play deal. I think we should nip in with a one year offer. 31 year owd, Plenty of experience and if he can avoid injury would be a bargain for nowt. Also i am going to try and throw another iron in the fire. How about David Bentley, Desperate to get rid and in behind the striker is lethal. God knows what fee and wages he would command though. We could make a top side out of Tottenham’s cast off’s

I agree about Woodgate very experienced composed and a decent CB when hes fit. David Bentley is a gready player wants to be centre of attention dont feel he’d fit into our squad. Technically and a football hes brilliant fantastic cross and hes got all the skills. But as a team player nahh it wouldnt work.

Quite good in the aerial control department as well.

I can’t see that he would fit Martinez’s policy (which I agree with) of buying younger, fit, hungry players.

Al-Habsi is 29, Gary Caldwell is 29, Steven Caldwell is 30 and Gohouri is 30, don’t know if there are others. You need some experience and i don’t believe that he believes that policy because he aint sticking to it. Someone like Woodgate in the squad would really add a prescence.
Oh and on the subject of defenders, we have overlooked somebody. Adrian Lopez, he will have had a full pre-seaon and could prove a bargain.

From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!10 July 2011 at 6:28 pm #68449I know that JR, i was just making the point that when we signed him he was no spring chicken.
I really do believe that you need a blend of youth and experience, Especially in the dressing room, if for anything to maybe help Martinez a bit. Im sure he would appreciate a bit of genuine leadership in the squad, Thats why he keeps giving Pollitt contracts.

But Woodgate is 31 going on 40 with his fitness record and that has shown no sign of improving over the last couple of years.
He’s also a thug as he showed at Leeds. Better off steering clear in my view – he’s no De Zeuww wise old head. More likely to be added trouble.
11 July 2011 at 2:53 pm #68453In my opinion any club would be wasting their money taking Woodgate on board whether its on a pay as you play deal or not
He’s had chronic injury problems since before he went to Real Madrid & they haven’t shown any signs of going away recently either – it all indicates a player who’s body is knackered & if its been like that for so long, the chances of it suddenly clearing are slim to none.
Even if you put him on a pay as you play deal you’ll still be chucking good money down the drain treating his various injury problems for the length of his contractHe should be one clubs should steer well clear of
