      WORLD CUP WORD OF WARNING

I lived in SA throughout the 90s and it is a beautiful and mainly friendly place.

      HOWEVER

It is also the most dangerous place you will ever experience outside a warzone……..

I was carjacked at a petrol station once and forced to drive my car at knife point by 2 meths addicts, into the bush where I was stabbed 10 times and was a whisker away from dying………

Violent crime affected everyone I knew over their, irrespective of colour or creed.

When you get mugged or Carjacked the general rule of thumb is shoot everyone in the car, men, women and children first then rob the car and whatever else can be had.

The robbers don’t ask questions, they simply walk up to your car at a traffic light or a junction or as you are getting in or out of your car and shoot you dead….rob you…end of……Literally.

This is what happened to a friend of mine……a Scottish guy Andy……His wife was taking his little girl to the nursery before she went to work at 9 am on a lovely sunny morning….she pulled up at a traffic light behind a minibus type vehicle….then another minibus pulled up behind her blocking her in. Then the guy driving the minibus in front jumped out, walked up to her car and shot her dead through the head through the side window then threw her body onto the road. The 3 year old child Angela with lovely blonde curly hair was booted through the passenger side window, breaking the glass with her body out onto the road. She suffered terrible brain damage and is now a virtual cabbage…….This horrific incident made 6 lines in the crime section of the local newspaper……Crimes like this are such a common occurrence that people have become desensitized…………

They tell you on the news or other programs covering World cup issues that if you don’t resist and you don’t carry much money and only carry a cheap mobile phone with you then you will be ok ????
…………………………….BOLLOCKS…………………………….You wont get the chance to not resist….or give them what little money you have …..or the cheap mobile………..you will be dead.

I went to a U2 concert in Joburg in 98… March the 17th I think? Human rights day…..at the First National Stadium…..It was a huge event……I was with 3 other friends….After the concert we where walking around looking for our car as we where not sure where we had left it…….big fkin mistake…. We ended up in the wrong area …Hillsbrow…and where shot at by these pricks with an AK 47 from half way up some high rise flats…..bullets just missed us…..we had to hide behind a wall till fkin daylight before we could get away…..

Also this 40000 strong team of extra security people that are supposed to look after the supporters are a joke……they are as corrupt as the rest of them……and given half a chance they will rob as well…

In saying all that …..i’m actually going to the world cup…..I have lots of friends out there who will put me up and I know where its safe to be and where its not…….but to your Jo average supporter who doesn’t know the score……..dead meat.

And they wonder why there are something like 12,000 unsold tickets, out of our 15,000 or so allocation……

Germans got 22,000 tickets, and have only sold 1,500.

        Is it any surprise?

I have said that in my lifetime, I am going to try and visit every continent, perhaps with the exception of the South Pole, as I would not have a clue how to get there, or any reason to.

Regarding Africa, I will probably get to Egypt one day. Sharm El Sheikh and all that looks ok, but I would have to see the Pyramids. (How criminal would it be to go all that way and NOT see them?) We looked at Tunisia for this year, but friends who went said it was shoite and the food was awful, etc. I know people who have had a luxury stay in Morrocco as well, but it was a case of staying at the hotel by the pool. (albeit 5 star luxury) So, really it could have been anywhere in the world.

But as for the rest of Africa? No thanks. I think of Africa, and I think of Apartheid. Nelson Mandela. White Racist Afrikaans. Zulu. Born Free (yes, big f*ck off lions-no thanks). Bob Geldof. Flies on undernourished kids in refugee camps. Lenny Henry ( overweight, un-funny comedian, preaching about famine….FFS! Him and his obese wife probably eat in a week enough to feed several African families for months!)…..yes, it’s all very ‘positive’. Not.

It’s all a FIFA ploy. Can’t put my finger on the reason, but I find it truly laughable that they are sending the World’s best nations and players, to a country that is more known for rugby and cricket. I mean, where is S.A. in the country rankings? My genuine feeling is that the host country should be at least one of the top 20 countries. A football mad country, where the passion will be electric. I just feel that this World Cup could be a real damp squib, in much the way USA ’94 was. Already there are big worries about accomodation and transport, and you really do have to worry that somebody will die during the tournament, in a bungled robbery, or something.

And if we don’t get the 2018 tournament, it’s a disgrace. I believe Brazil are in for it (again), despite having terrible stadiums and infrastructure. An infrastructure that includes no real sewage disposal, apart from the kind of sewage outlets into the sea that they used to have in Blackpool. By all accounts, the Copacabana Beach is far from the beauty it once was.
There is no better place to hold the World Cup than this country, with it’s magnificent stadiums, infrastructure, and the fact that we organised a superb Euro ’96 tournament.

On the pitch, I really think we have a big chance. But what a shame if there are only a couple of thousand fans there to see it?

Sepp Blatter always dreamed of having a african world cup though didnt he (probably because it was easier to get backhanders as its a way of life over there), so the positive for me is that he may do one now and we will finnally get someone in charge that cares about football!

Vat if you fancy Africa try the Gambia its beautiful plus you can go on mini safaris to see if you fancy doing the real thing!

Copacabana beach is a hovel and ive had numerous friends go and come back and say its like blackpool beach in the late 80s but with stunning women most of whom are pros!

As for this world cup its going to be the most annoying thing to watch with the bubazellas blowing plus the potential for trouble! At least one good thing is that we wont have to see images of grown men cowering from plastic chairs being thrown! Theyll soon run if its ak47s or lions coming down the street!

Oh well at least we can win it this time! cough cough!

I echo the comments regarding The Gambia,it’s a great place. I got married in Kenya and it was stunning. I also got to see Tanzania whilst I was there and was literally speechless at the scenery.

                But………..

I work with a fair few South Africans and almost to a man they say that even if they were given first class air tickets and free World Cup tickets they still wouldn’t get on the plane because of the violence in their country. Now that’s a sad indictment of what I’m led to believe is (in parts) a beautiful country.

Sod it. Perth and Norley Hall it is for me then.

The scariest thing of all is that they have built these new stadiums…magnificent as they are…..right smack in the middle of the townships which are notorious for the worst violence………….

The beer will be cheap out there even if they triple the price that it is now and there will be lads on the lash getting trashed with their mates in the bars….doesnt have to be on a match day…..and they will wander off …pssd as rsholes into the streets…and that will be it….the last time you will see them alive again.. ….they will stab or shoot them without a blink of the eye…..These township blacks…….are the worlds biggest cowards with the worlds biggest chips on their shoulders …they will never stand and fight they will only stab and shoot……and there will always be more of them than you………….

There will always be more of them than you.. How can you make that assumption? Do they have clone machines on standby

On a more serious note VAT…. I too have recently been thinking that I want to visit every continent and as many countries as possible. I am only 20 years of age and am in a relatively well paid job (especially for age), so there is lots of time for me to do it if I can save… But seeing the pyramids is one thing I have wanted to do for quite a while and missed out on the chance whilst in cyprus (via 3-day cruise) and am gutted. Is it an expensive do going to see them do you know?

Egypt as a holiday is very affordable right now, fill your boots, go for a couple of months, even better go next week and travel all around North Africa and make your way slowly south to coinside with the World Cup finals in the summer.

                      Just a thought :D
