I believe the blonde lad you’re on about from Crewe was Chris Duffy – played for Canvey Island when they beat us
Anyway my worst ever XI is:
GK – Nigel Adkins
RB – Matty Carragher
CH – Brendan Ormsby
CH – John Robertson
LB – Mark Wright
RW – Leigh Jenkinson (left winger i know but he deserves a mention)
CM – Mick Kennedy
CM – Kevin Langley (2nd time around)
LW – Somebody Whittaker (on loan from Bolton under Deehan)
CF – Pat Gavin
CF – Peter Thorne
GK: Vladamir Stjokovic
RB: Fitz Hall
CB: Antonio Amaya
CB: Gary Caldwell
LB: Maynor Figueroa
RM: Gary Teale
CM: Jason Jarrett
CM: Hendry Thomas
LM: David Thompson
ST: Mauro Bosielli
ST: Jason Scotland
We have had quite a lot of duffers over the years, most were instantly forgettable, unfortunately not all, so here is my first attempt. It may get amended as I remember others worse than these.
D Felgate
C Duffy
S Appleton
J Robertson
M Kennedy
L Rogerson
J Lowey
S Storer
G Bennett
S Taylor
L Jenkinson
Defence – Steven Appleton, Brendan Ormsby, Pasquale Bruno, Chris Duffy
Midfield – Keith Gillespie (2nd spell), Mick Kennedy, Lee Rogerson, Leigh Jenkinson
Forwards – Drewe Broughton, David Fairclough
Manager – Kenny Swain
I’d say that’s the best yet. First one to mention Shryne, the loanee keeper from Halifax.
And Lee Rogerson, our big signing from Clitheroe.
They were the days where you’d be on the way to the match, or would arrive at the match and hear “We’ve got a new lad playing”.
Your excitement and anticipation would rise, and then half an hour later would have totally evaporated, when you realised it was someone like Ormsby or that Drewe Broughton. He’s still playing him.
Cant think of too many shocking defenders at this moment. I reserve the right to add these at a later date. also apologies for spelling. im rushing!! my popcorn chicken is done in the oven.
heres a few names to add,jeff peron,mark leonard,steffan bidstrup,jorg smeets,peter kennerdy
The inclusion of Mark Leonard is a bit harsh. He never gave less than 100%, and he did score some goals.[/quote]
Mark Leonard was bloody awful & I’d have probably stuck him in mine if my brain hadn’t wiped the trauma of watching him from my memory banks
You’re right in that he was a grafter but as a centre forward he was awful.
Graham Barrow used to play 4-5-1 in which Leonard was the sole striker & yet he went pretty much a whole calendar year at one point without scoring (including after barrow had left)
Come to think of it, if he was still playing today with a record like that I’m sure he’d be on Bobby’s radar!!!

I was talking in the context of the quality we had at the time. I don’t think he was too bad. He grafted, and he got a few goals. Neil Morton, on the other hand……
Remember a player called Darren Boughey, signed after Ray Woods left for Coventry, played 2 games scored 2 goals and was never seen again.
Another hero :? was Phil ‘jesus’ Jones.
We had Boughey on loan from Stoke, in about 1991-ish. He never played a home game, despite scoring 2 in 2 away games.
Personally, considering we signed Daley from the Cheshire League, he did quite well for us. He scored a few goals. I remember him scoring a cracking header in a 3-3 draw at Stockport.
