Since they have a similar thread “over there” we should too!
Very hard to pick my best 5; it would have been easier to pick 10!
Here goes –
5) v Blackburn Dec 2007 (5-3)
We’ve had some tear ups against Blackburn over the year and this was a humdinger. 3-0 up then back to 3-3 and finally 5-3 and they missed a penalty. Still the only Premier League game with a hat trick for both teams (Marcus Bent and Santa Cruz)4) v Arsenal Apr 2010 (3-2)
2-0 down with 11 min to go when Ben Watson pulls one back (didn’t he score another important goal sometime? My memory’s not what it was  ), then big Titus heads over (just) after their keeper makes a howler. Rounded off in the last minute of added time by Charlie N’Zogbia with that cracker in off the post. Wenger doing a windmill impression; priceless3) v West Ham Apr 2011 (3-2)
2-0 down at the interval and going down if we lost…back to 2-2 then Charley (who else that season?) steps up in the last seconds to win it and send them down B)2) v Reading May 2005 (3-1)
The day we reached the footballing summit, proving all the critics wrong (again)1) v Man City May 2013 (1-0)
Couldn’t have picked any other game. The never to be forgotten day we shook the footballing world :woohoo:19 May 2020 at 8:27 pm #1861871. The obvious
2. F R T final v Brentford up until the FA cup final this was always my number 1 seeing the team going up the famous Wembley steps as winners making up for the heartbreak of 73 Trophy Final.
3. Reading has to be up there for any Latics fan but that bit more special to me because of the Champagne reception and ovation I got on my return to the club I frequented in Nuneaton.
4. Chelsea 0 Latics 1 1981 Stamford Bridge. Tommy Gore winner in a game that every man and his dog reckoned we were gonna get annihilated. And the reaction of the Chelsea crowd to us after the game.
5. Latics 3 Nob End 0. This was an absolute rout. I’ve seen Latics score a lot more against opposition but this should have been double figures
How the hell they managed to keep it to just 3 still amazes me. And because it’s that lot.19 May 2020 at 8:56 pm #186188So 3-0 gets in but not the 5-0?
My five….well the first five that come to mind anyway
1 – FA Cup Final – Obvious
2 – Reading 2005 – Still brings back tears
3 – Everton FA Cup – Booked our place at Wembley (not that I agree with the semis being there) and went the furthest we ever have in the competition
4 – League Cup Final – Not the best result but seeing us in a major final was tremendous
5 – Arsenal League Cup Semi Final – The way we won the game/tie with the late goal after they had been giving it the Ole’s and Phil Dowd had done his best to see us off. I went from absolute anger at what had happened to absolute joy in a matter of seconds. Never tire of seeing that goal
19 May 2020 at 10:32 pm #1861905th home game versus Man Utd won 1-0 2011-12
4th home game versus Darlington 1994 2-0 win , first game I took my son to , then aged only 4.
3rd 2013 FA cup final v Man City , amazing day and most people’s number one but kind of expected to win it believe it or not.
2nd West Ham at home 3-2 home win 2010-11 , so much was riding on this one and such a finish to the game.
1st home v Port vale April 1979 5-3 home win after being 3-0 down with 20 minutes to play, first ever Latics game19 May 2020 at 10:38 pm #1861915th home game versus Man Utd won 1-0 2011-12

For the trip as a whole; Zulte Waregan Away
Fa Cup final
Reading win to get us to the prem
City cup win (take your pick) but away was amazing
United win at home in that relegation avoiding runTough to leave out the first freight river and the port vale come back win as they stick in the mind for a long time ago
20 May 2020 at 2:26 am #186193So many tough decisions again to leave games out.
20 May 2020 at 12:49 pm #186194I’m an overseas supporter (Ireland) so I don’t get to see as many games which may explain a few ‘peculiar’ choices here!
5) Northampton Town (H) 2-1 win. My first Wigan game, September 2000 I think. Haworth and Liddell with a cracker scored and the game was held up for about 10 minutes due to crowd trouble, away fans of course!!
4) Millwall, Wembley, 2-0. Seeing Wigan at Wembley will always be a highlight. Also a bit of crowd trouble, am I seeing a trend here  ??. Unfortunately couldn’t return for the cup final as it was my daughter’s communion.
3) QPR (A) 1-0, 2003, my first Wigan away game with the Duke chesting the ball in from close range.
2) Reading, 3-1, game that clinched promotion to Premier League. Another thing I remember from that great day was seeing an Irish tricolour hanging the West Stand with ‘Tiocfaidh ar la’ written on it  . Maybe James was in attendance!
1) West Ham, 3-2, what a game, the fightback from 0-2 to win 3-2. The game could have finished 10-10, buzzing for the night. My wife, who went shopping in Manchester, thought I had taken something when I met her!!21 May 2020 at 10:53 am #186195Since they have a similar thread “over there” we should too!Very hard to pick my best 5; it would have been easier to pick 10!

Couldn’t have picked any other game. The never to be forgotten day we shook the footballing world :woohoo:I agree with your selection. But for me personally, I would swap your 5th choice with the Freight rover trophy final of 1985. The first (& what i assumed would be my only time) watching latics in a cup final.
21 May 2020 at 1:35 pm #1861965 alternative happy days
1. Blackpool in 79/80 FA cup replay. Didn’t get in until half time as there were 14k trying to get in. Cracking atmosphere as two second half goals won us the tie.
2. Chelsea in 81/82 league cup. Our first meeting with the Merry Londoners and we murdered them 4-2 with Mark Wignall scoring his only goals for the club.
3. Mansfield 81/82. Clinched our first promotion in front of the tv cameras as an Eamon O’Keefe hatrick gave us a 3-1 win. Probably my favourite pitch invasion.
4. Mansfield 84/85 FRT. Two very tense hours spent in the drizzle watching a mud bath of a game. Roy Tunks was the hero as he was unbeatable in the penalty shootout to take us to Wembley.
5. Blackburn 84/85 Manx cup final. Blackburn were a league above but deservedly beaten by our young team on a balmy hot summer evening. Weird Colin Methven scored the winner with a diving header. This was the first time I’d actually seen us lift a trophy!
21 May 2020 at 3:28 pm #186197Very good alternatives Edwards, I enjoyed that Mansfield shoot out, we had a good side then
How about worst trips?
Starter for ten would be a cold night at Stockport when we got battered by a Kevin Francis hat trick, early nineties, one of the rare times I have left early21 May 2020 at 10:33 pm #1861985 alternative happy days1. That Blackpool game was the one I got stretchered off after being pushed down the town end terrace and doing my ankle ligaments. Never saw the resulting penalty that caused the crowd surge that did for me lol.

Division Two Playoff 2nd leg.
Maine Road, Manchester.Possibly the lowest I’d felt as a Latics fan at the time and there haven’t been many timea that have felt as bad as that did. My TV still gets turned off when ever ‘he’ comes on

Good old Nuneaton, taking one for the team!
I don’t mind losing if it’s fair and square.
Losing to Arsenal after the Heskey penalty wasn’t given was a low, made worse by their disgusting gloating fans at the end.22 May 2020 at 6:18 pm #186201Bolton game away 3 or 4 down at HT. Left after 55 mins and walked it home. Was it Tunnicliffe who came on as a sub then got subbed not long after?
From Matlock to ManU
What a journey! -
