Peter Houghton.
30 November 2009 at 9:11 pm #14266Close one, but it has to be Jimmy Bullard
30 November 2009 at 9:35 pm #14267Sir Andy Liddell. Was my hero when i first started watching latics.
Never saw him miss a penalty unless someone can correct me on that.
Best memory of him was probably his hat trick against cambridge at home think we won 4-1.30 November 2009 at 10:04 pm #14268Tony Kelly.
When he was at Stoke they called him Zico.30 November 2009 at 10:09 pm #14270Sir Harry Lyon before 78 Sir Andrew Liddell after 78
30 November 2009 at 10:44 pm #14272Tony Kelly for me as well, played the the game with a touch of arrogance like Cantona, who happens to be my fave Premiership player of all time.
30 November 2009 at 11:15 pm #14276Paul Cook or, at the risk of looking like a sycophant, Roberto Martinez.
Can you tell I like my footballers to be slightly tardy, have clean socks and an eye for a defence splitting pass?
It might also explain why I have a slight soft spot for Jordi Gomez and really hope he will come good and fulfil his undoubted promise, though I’m not holding my breath.

30 November 2009 at 11:36 pm #14280i know you sai just 1 but ian purdie and frank corrigan from the early days but i really liked kevin langley superb passer of the ball
30 November 2009 at 11:53 pm #14286Well, my first football hero, was Bobby Campbell. It was the way he would dive in where the boots were flying to score, and end up in the net with the ball. That hat-trick at Burnden Park, is STILL among my best ever moments as a fan.
But my favourite player of all time…..phew…it’s hard. But I think I’ll plump for Andy Liddell. No game was ever lost, as long as he was on the field, and he always gave 110%. Seems a genuine nice bloke as well, and for someone who had to ask for trials at clubs as a 16 year old, he’s not had a bad career. Our top goalscorer, as well.
1 December 2009 at 12:41 am #14294Can’t do just one. It’s an era thing….
Harry Lyon – before 1970
Billy Sutherland – in the 70’s
Tony Kelly -in the 80’s
Bobby Campbell – in the 90’s
Arjan de Zeeuw – after 2000
and in the next decade ??? It’d be great if were to be Jordi Gomez
1 December 2009 at 12:14 pm #14317Barry Smith. I wonder what happened to him after his spell with Wigan.
1 December 2009 at 2:07 pm #14325Stuart Barlow
1 December 2009 at 2:10 pm #14327Roy Tunks and I can’t wait to see him at the Supporters Club Annual Dinner in March – he has confirmed he will be attending along with quite a few others from the 84-85 season……. I know, sad!
FA Cup Winners 2013, sounds good that
