Bobby Campbell hat-trick, League Cup, at Burnden Park, 1987……Wooden Stand that shook……Normid Supermarket in one corner…..That walkway they had in the away end, looked out over an astroturf pitch?…Manchester Road, lovely place…………Phil Neal………Barry Cowdrill………Feeling robbed in circa 1989 when a game kicked off at Burnden and shouldn’t have, as the pitch was waterlogged. Match abandoned at half-time, no refund………….Taking a two nil lead at Burnden, through Scott McGarvey and Mark Hilditch, only for them to comeback…..Getting done in the same game, in the last minute by a Julian Darby back-header, with Phil Hughes stranded out of goal……..Mark Patterson…..Mark Winstanley….Dean Crombie…..Steve Thompson….Scott Green, who later did well for us, as did David Lee…….Tony Philliskirk and David Reeves, the ‘blonde bombshells’ being ‘bummed up’ by Elton Welsby and his ‘Kick Off’ chums……David Felgate….Simon Farnworth…..Tony Kelly, coming back to haunt us, with a solo goal at Springfield, in our relegation season………..
Then if memory serves me right, that was it until 2005. We’ve had some interesting tussles with them since, and tonight really is a big game for both sides.
Tony Kelly’s 50 yard own goal (whilst playing for Bolton) where he just turned & smashed it over Andy Dibble’s head
Bryan Grifiths 2 fingered salute
Suffering the embarrassment of giving Bolton half the town end & the Phoenix stand side of the home terracing & then watching their team absolutely wipe the floor with Latics (4-0 was it? or maybe I’m thinking of a result around the same time against Port Vale)

Yeah, Port Vale smacked us 4-0, definitely. Robbie Van Der Laan….remember him? I think Bolton was 2-0. Can’t remember them having the Town End, though.
I remember Bryan Griffifths giving the fingers. Wasn’t Rimmer sent off early doors in that game? (Friday night?)
it was 1-0 and they had a good chunk of the popular side..i think it was the first time we played them at home (boxing day?)
I’m pretty sure the game when Kelly scored the solo goal at the Shevington End, was more towards the end of the season. I thought it was more than 1-0 as well.
Yep, just looked it up. It was 2-0 (Kelly, Walker), and was played in April 10, 1993. (I remember it was a sunny day)
They didn’t have the Popular side it was half the town end & the terracing near the supporters club & phoenix stand
Everything about that game was a real low point in Latics v Bolton history.
Mind you I never thought then that it would be over 12 years before we’d get to play the bastards again

the game im thinking of might be a different one. all that separated the latics fans and the excess bolton ones was a welded hand rail and about about three strands of common DNA
