Just been to watch the 5th round youth cup game v Manchester City. Latics lost 3-1 after extra time(1-1 after 90 mins) but got to say I was really impressed with the Latics lads. They gave 100% and matched City all the way. Ran out of steam a bit in injury time but chapeau to all of them. A very entertaining game.
Given they are a category one club with the best facilities in the world, investing 12 million per year into their academy last night’s performance was exceptional. One of their players was recently bought for 2.5 million which is probably more than our first team cost! Great job by the guys running our 18s. Let’s hope a few can step up to the first team in the coming years.
