Roberto Martinez will be managing Wigan Athletic next season after he ended speculation by signing a new 3 year deal to keep him at the DW Stadium.

There were not many doubting that Latic’s gaffer wouldn’t stay to finish the job here, but to put all minds at rest he signed an improved three year contract this morning.

Part of him agreeing the contract was a commitment by chairman Dave Whelan to buying the Christopher Park training facility outright and developing it to a truly magnificent place for players to train and recuperate.

This will not only benefit the current crop of players, but also will help in the promoting of the club to new players and to give them the best possible place to train and learn.

Aston Villa will have to look back at the rest of the crop out there in their hunt to replace Gerard Houlier who has been advised to get away from managerial stress. Mark Hughes and Steve McLaren are now back on the radar for them.

Bobby will now be able to see if he can fulfil his ambition to get Latics to the top half of the table and dare we say challenge for trophies and maybe even a European quest, but maybe we are getting ahead of ourselves.
