After Wigan Athletic Supremo Dave Whelan gave Aston Villa permission to talk with Roberto Martinez, the gaffer didn’t exactly rush back from holiday to start those talks.

Of course there are no guarantees that he is going to choose Villa over Latics, but if what Mr. Whelan is saying is correct, the signs are that he will still be our manager tomorrow afternoon.

The chairman went on 5 Live this afternoon and let slip that Villa got in touch nine days ago, but Roberto still stayed on holiday and even left it till yesterday to actually contact them. It might not mean much, but it certainly doesn’t look like someone who is overly interested.

In those interim days whilst he was away, Villa has been turned down by Benitez, Anciolotti and Moyes. Fan pressure put an end to their best bet Steve McLaren and apparently although Martinez is highest now on their list, there are still other suitors that they are keeping in mind.

Aston Villa are a bigger club than Latics, there is no denying that, but is that a big enough pull for a manager that will be expected to deliver results immediately and be their saviour. Had they called next year, I would probably be have different thought s.

But I feel Roberto will still want to learn a bit more and also take on the final year of his three year plan to get us being a top ten team. Either way we will know by 1.30 p.m. tomorrow afternoon…
