When it boils down to it, a team that is on a high at 2-2, rather than a team that is bewildered at 2-1 and still chasing the game, will undoubtedly get a different result.
We may still have lost, but I guarantee the ethos, work rate, subs and result would have been totally different.
All in all it is like watching Wigan Athletic, bad officials decision resulting a bad loss.
I still think that we (England) aren’t/weren’t good enough to win it, but refs/asses decisions influence matches and they need to be addressed

does that include the “officiles” or officials that had control of the blackpool,notts county twice,manchester united twice,portsmouth,bolton, arsenal,tottenham and chelsea games – i make that little lot 48 goals conceded -it must have been terrible reffereeing

reffereeing ????? If you are going to pull someone up on their spelling then try not to do so with a sentence containing a blatant spelling mistake like that !

the trouble is “officiles” is a blatent spelling mistake and no matter how many times i try i cant make the same mistake, like i did by catching the fffffff key twice as in my ref(f)ereeing errrrror !!!!!!!!!!

so it was the refs fault we gave the worst performance by an England team in living memory. It wasnt down to Terry,Upson and Johnson who looked like they had never played the game before. It wasnt due to the fact that Gerrard, Lumpard Barry and Milner played so close together we had no shape or width.Or that Rooney looked like he just couldnt care less. It was the dissallowed goal that cost us. mmmmmmmmm

It would have been the biggest get out of jail ever seen mind, and would have done nothing to dispel the myth that England were hopeless. b) you can type it without fear of the swear-filter.Griff, your spot on about the Germans and thats why this defeat is hard to take. Even the team we mullered 5-1 in Munich would beat the present side. I think they will be showed up against the Argies tho i may be wrong. I dont think the Lumpard goal would have made the slightest difference whatsoever before and after the incident our defending was shambolic and it was a matter of how many the sausage eaters would score. What i find really disturbing is the fact that in the four games played how many players that figured could we say really tried really wanted it as much as us the fans?. David James cannot be critisised how many more can say that.

It may have effected the game, but what I saw in the previous 3.5 games makes me think we would have only been papering over the cracks of a top 16 team at best. Argentina would have been more humiliating if we got through.
To sum up England performances at world cups since 1966, we have won 5 knockout games in 44 years, when you need 4 to win it…….. we are pants face it.
