This has been done on a few message boards and social media sites I visit so I thought we could have a go at it here.
Being a Latics fan makes it tough to pick a best XI with the promotions we have had (Graham Jones wouldn’t score 30+ goals in the PL for example but is still one of the best strikers to ever play for us) so we are going to follow the boxing route and do this “pound for pound”
What is the best side you have ever seen play for Wigan Athletic? Any formation you like and a full set of 7 subs.

Christ knows egg lad, its impossible to choose especially if your like us Owd duffers who followed the non league Latics. Pound for pound and how their careers went at other clubs you would have to include Derek Temple, Mickey Quinn Archie Gemill etc etc. Bloody hard this one egg I’m gonna let others try first coz I’m scrambled.
My side is based on my favourites and how good they were in there respective level they played.

Given me second thoughts that now Egg. How can I leave out Boyce and Palacious. There late call ups for Greenhall and Watson and make the bench
This was so difficult
Roy Tunks- won us so many points on the road, and those penalty saves at Mansfield
Colin Methven – a mountain! “Weird Col”
Alex Cribley – great partnership with Weird Col, quick and versatile
Leighton Baines – the famous left foot! Quick and a mean attitude to win
Reece James – probably the best all round player to pull on a Latics shirt. I preferred him at left back but he could play anywhere
Graham Barrow – nobody but nobody messed with him on the pitch (or in the stands or terraces) and good for a few goals
Jimmy Bullard – the marathon man with spectacular shooting ability
Andy Liddell – skill and trickery, clever, goals , the lot
Charles N’Zogbia – the most skilful player we’ve ever had
Duke Ellington – unplayable. Superb in the air and devastating on the ground
Jason Roberts – icon. Perfect partner for the Duke and fabulous on his own

Lids, Mario, and on and on.Archie Gemmill and Eamon O Keefe virtually got us promoted between them. Big Em got his England place back because of his form for the Latics. Valencia was unplayable at times. N,Zog was a match winner on occasions. Peter Houghton was colossus. Bainsey was superb at times. If I kept going on I would finish this post around xmas. I cant pick a favorite because they have all been
