To be honest going into this game I would of been happy with a draw but seeing has they had a man sent off within the first 30 minutes we really should’ve taken advantage but there keeper (who I’ve never heard of, thought he was a reserve keeper), had the game of his life. Also, that Boselli miss was terrible. :o
11 September 2010 at 8:59 pm #46067He is their reserve keeper but Biscuit Bones Gordon broke his arm in pre-season tying his laces.
17 attempts on goal to their 4.
Not beating a team who are in the same section of the Premiership as you when they’re down to 10men is always points dropped in my book.
11 September 2010 at 9:04 pm #46068I said to my mate, it was the worst thing that could have happened Cattermole getting sent off. Up to that point it was a wide open game and then Sunderland shut up shop and sat behind the ball. We just didn’t have enough to break them down and the passing in midfield at times was woeful. Still a point in the prem is not that bad against any opposition. :|
From Matlock to ManU

11 September 2010 at 9:33 pm #46072AnonymousDefinetly had the chances today.. Boselli the main culprit who should have done better. But do feel a little sorry for the lad he tried and worked his socks off just had 1 of those days. When he was walking off you could see the disapointment in his face he was dieing 2 score, and obviously felt he let the team down. I wouldnt like the fans to start using him as the scape goat as they did with Scotland im sure he’l come good. Hopefully his 1st goal wont take long… Another great game for Al Habsi who looks so comfortable in goal, he had no chance against Gyan’s stike though. Alcaraz looks like the man we have missed seems to have found his rythym again and was so confortable, won nearly every header aswell. I couldnt see the goal properly but he definetly deserved it he was our MOM.
Franco Di Santo….. Im so glad we have signed him, from what i saw in 35mins this lad had everything, skills, pace, ability to win the ball, strength and he looks really creative. He looks like our best signing in allong while, a real breathe of fresh air. I feel Diame and Mccarthy need to up there fitness rates, i know there allover the place working hard and i think there fantastic players. It just seems as soon as the 70min mark comes these 2 start flagging. It was Diame’s tiredness that lead to the goal he should have dealt with Henderson. Also Mccarthy got a little sloppy near the end of the game, a few miss passes. Stam also seemed really energetic looks a good player, loves to cut inside though, he played well in his wrong position… There keeper was there MOM and Steve Bruce acts like a little girl on the touchline, should have heard him moaning!! Was funny when Mensah couldnt find his top….Id carry on but id assume most of you are bored by now, just my views of the game, was quite enjoyable to be honestOh yeah
Had £4 on Alcaraz last goal at 40/1 aswell :D11 September 2010 at 9:58 pm #46074Definetly had the chances today.. Boselli the main culprit who should have done better. Had £4 on Alcaraz last goal at 40/1 aswell :DThought Di Santo was chasing shadows if im honest. Didn’t look as half as good as you make him out. Im certainly not judging him after a sub appearance though mind you.
Cleverlely, Now that is a young lad with potential, we have a future England midfielder this season so we should use him well. Did you notice the difference with him and the rest of the midfield. Whilst Diame, Thomas, McCarthy e.t.c try to play balls wide to Figeuroa and N’Zogbia all the time and wait for crosses, or launch optimistic balls at Boselli, Cleverley was always looking for a quick 1-2 or a simple but effective pass forwards and trying to create space on his own. He didn’t need to use the whole pitch to create a bit of space he only needs the 5 or 10 yards to create it.
Agree with Al Habsi, we have been missing a decent keeper for at least 3 seasons as Kirkland has gone in my book.
Boselli looks as though he lacks confidence already, He reminds me of the after christmas Zaki, Hopefully a goal will will do the trick but lets just hope he doesn’t take as long as Scotland did.
Stam looks superb, Well impressed with him. Its between him and Al Habsi for the best signing though i would give it to Al Habsi for the stability he brings.
Agree completely with Alcaraz, Had my reservations but he is growing with confidence every game and improving at a faster rate. Now then……Charles N’Zogbia. Erm….
It’s my view that as soon as he came on we seemed to drop the performance level. I don’t think we need to play him, I was certain that we would struggle without him but against Spurs we looked a solid unit and up until he came on we looked just as solid. Stam is very capable of working that wing. They are different players entirely of course. Stam looks for the pass, plays into feet and lurks around the box for loose ballls. N’Zogbia does the predictable run to the by line, does a typical Damien Duff dummy onto his left foot and whips in a crap ball, Or cuts in and shoots. Stam all day for me.

11 September 2010 at 11:34 pm #46081Well I thought Di Santos looked pretty good to me ! Alcaraz was clearly man of the match but for some bizarre reason Hugo got that ?? Stam was impressive and Cleverly looks decent. Nzogbia had Richardson chasing shadows and feigning injury left right and centre just to get his breath back ! All in all a good performance but I am still concerned about the lack of bodies in the box when we are in the final third ! We overcook things a bit I feel and should get more balls into the box when 2 or 3 of ours are present. Perhaps thats why we seem bereft of ideas outside the box and overcook it, because there is nobody waiting for that cross or through ball !! As I reside in the dark side its 3 points lost and just one gained ! Was an improved performance though !

The only criticsm I have today is with the midfield and their reluctance to take the ball forward.
There were many occaisions today where Sunderland were sitting very deep, and we chose to do long cross field balls when there was acres of space in front of them.
Alcaraz seemed to be the only player confident enough to take it forward.Al Habsi, Should keep Kirky out for a while
Figgy, Better, but I’m not convinced he is good enough
Stam, Played well and always a threat
Gohouri, Looking better each match
Alcaraz, Solid, going to be a star player
Boyce, Got forward well, dependable
Diame, Decent performance, but faded
Thomas, Too many boring sideways passes
McCarthy, The best of the midfielders
Boselli, Worked hard, should have scored
Hugo, Ineffective as usualN’Zog, Frustrating, FFS get the ball in the box
Di Santos, Very lively, big, strong and direct
Cleveley, Looks classy, should be good for us12 September 2010 at 6:10 am #46102this side ways passing and long diagonal balls to the wings does my head in. a lot of the time the ball just goes in to touch. sometimes the direct ball is the better option? just a thought like?
ps .. its the better option if there is more then one player in the box. again just a thought like!
12 September 2010 at 10:41 am #46103di santos chasing shadows give it a rest, u know nothing about football with that statement, :roll:No course not, I cant be a super fan. He had half an hour of football and you all think he is Messi. What did he ACTUALLY do. apart from run. Like i said he looked ok but not as good as everyone is making out. To put so much pressure on him to perform so early is just silly. To say i nothing about football is laughable, if only you knew..

What did he do? For one he put a sublime cross in which should have resulted in a goal! That was just one.
Hugo was good and alcaraz mom to me. I blame diame for the goal. He didn’t put the effort into the attempt to tackle Henderson and then just let him go. No attempt to chase him and keep the pressure on.
But encouraging nonetheless. Though having seen man city against Blackburn, I am worried about the scoreline next week.
But confident we will be good by October.
