If we take nothing else out of the game, I’ll take these two positives:-
1, James McLean’s debut performance was very promising.
2, Grant Holt going toe-to-toe with Vidic.
11 August 2013 at 11:23 pm #119176I must admit that Holt going head-to-head (or toe-to-toe depending on how your life rolls) with Vidic was a highlight.
We have needed someone with that aggression, and I think we must accept that he will be missing for some games suspended, but having that passion is commendable and what we need in the Championship.
11 August 2013 at 11:42 pm #119177No need to! Even if players ran at him asking for the ball he didn’t need to give it to them!
We spent all of last season taking short corners and ending up with the ball back with our own goalkeeper (slight exaggeration I know) so why when 2-0 not put it in the box – you never know we may have got the better of Vidic once.
But what we did do gave us nowt
Just an opinion but I’m more than happy for others to have a different one – makes this forum interesting!
11 August 2013 at 11:43 pm #119178I have to agree with Griff on the positives (there’s a rare occurrence eh Griff?)

You know my thoughts on Gomez Al, but you’d think he would already have twigged that Coyle seems to prefer his corners hit directly into the box.
11 August 2013 at 11:59 pm #119180I didn’t expect us to win today.I just get annoyed when we don’t play well especially against the team I loathe more than any other.
Knee jerk reaction with me.
Looking back now I realise you can’t judge anything on today’s performance.
Next Saturday we should perform well against a team who conceded 6 yesterday.I really can’t wait for the 20th and 25th now.I’m going to miss Forest though cos I’m off on holiday.
Onwards and upwards.
12 August 2013 at 1:25 am #119184If it was indeed a pointless and meaningless game then why did 6000 fans bother making their way to Wembley ? Perhaps we knew something that they didn’t ! On the game, it did make me wonder why we would want to go back there ! Are we in a catch 22 scenario in the Championship ?

I suppose so but not to aspire to play at the highest level is not really an option.
12 August 2013 at 2:36 am #119189Totally agree . Couldn’t string 4 passes together, no efforts on goal and the set pieces …!!!!!!.Did Macmanaman touch the ball after he came on? Lets hope this is just a pointless game that’s best out of the way.Could’nt string 4 passes together. Except for the time in the first half when we strung umpteen passes together and Utd couldn’t get the ball off us.For Christ sake we were up against the most powerfull club side in the country and at times I thought we made them look ordinary. We were never gonna win today but at least we competed unlike in past times when we have laid down and let them tickle our tummy.
Aint being funny but after today If I were Moyes I would be quite apprehensive about playing the really good teams in the Prem. As for us we will be ok.12 August 2013 at 3:31 am #119192I thought we played well in spells. We didn’t create anything but neither did United. Carson didn’t have much to do except pick the ball out twice.
I think it was clear that the players could have done with out the game. Get the defeat out of our minds quickly and move on to Bournemouth.
12 August 2013 at 3:43 am #119193Griff and his usual shotgun posse need to read my post again.I didn’t put down our chances of pushing for promotion or criticize individuals or tactics or use expletives like some posters have to to emphasize their manhood.I stated imo that we didn’t do ourselves justice against a United team who have had an average pre season and in the 90 mins created very little but happy to put this friendly behind us.Every post that Griff reads that is non complimentary must be like sticking your finger in an open wound to him.Disagree with me by all means but try keep you fingers away from nasty words it’s not big and it’s not clever.
12 August 2013 at 12:11 pm #119194Two nil against a team who normally shove 4 or 5 past us. RVP the only difference between the teams. We know we can play better we weren’t that bad

I thought Perch and Bennett looked good at the back, for me the problem is in the midfield. IF we get £10m for McCarthey then let him go. Watson could misplace a pass from anywhere on that field.
