Griff and his usual shotgun posse need to read my post again.I didn’t put down our chances of pushing for promotion or criticize individuals or tactics or use expletives like some posters have to to emphasize their manhood.I stated imo that we didn’t do ourselves justice against a United team who have had an average pre season and in the 90 mins created very little but happy to put this friendly behind us.

No you didn’t, what you stated was:

“Couldn’t string 4 passes together, no efforts on goal and the set pieces …!!!!!!.Did Macmanaman touch the ball after he came on?”

I agree you didn’t criticise tactics or promotion chances in there, but you had a fair pop at more or less everything else.

Every post that Griff reads that is non complimentary must be like sticking your finger in an open wound to him.Disagree with me by all means but try keep you fingers away from nasty words it’s not big and it’s not clever.

Not so, I just can’t stand negative people who can’t to wait and have a moan and you, mt friend, are by dfar the biggest culprit on here. It used to be Loudmouthblue but at least he didn’t like the Martinez approach. You just seem to moan about everything.

And you’re right, I was wrong to call you a fickle bastard. – that would imply that at least sometimes you actually come out with something positive. But you don’t, do you? We never hear from you when the team is doing well.

Anyway, I’m sure my shotgun posse will back me up! Shotgun posse!!! Grow up, FFS

If we take nothing else out of the game, I’ll take these two positives:-

1, James McLean’s debut performance was very promising.

2, Grant Holt going toe-to-toe with Vidic.

I thought Perch and Bennett looked good at the back, for me the problem is in the midfield. IF we get £10m for McCarthey then let him go. Watson could misplace a pass from anywhere on that field.[/quote]

I’d snap somebody’s hands off if they offered £10m for McCarthy. I haven’t been impressed with him for a long time. He just doesn’t create anything, he has no positive thinking in him. He focuses far too much of retaining possession than actually doing something with the ball.

Ever since he had the injury 2 or 3 years back he has looked poor for me. I rate McArthur much higher.

If we sold him I would personally change the front 6 to:

        Holt

        McClean-Maloney-McManaman

        Watson-McArthur

I think that would be a more potent line up than what we currently employ. I think Gomez could also flourish in that role instead of Maloney.

Me? No sense of humour? Aye, OK cock! Because I’m well known for having no sense of humour. Or were you trying to imply that your original post was a joke? Doubt it.

Listen, I respect plenty people’s opinions but, as people always say, it has to be earned. You have done absolutely jack in all the time I have seen you post to earn my respect. You’re entitled to your opinion, of course, but I have no requirement to respect it at all.

By the way, on this network, I can’t actually see the picture that Salford posted but, as he is a mate of mine, and someone with whom I have a mutually respectful relationship, I guess he’s probably not really having a pop at me.

So in the end it looks like most naysayers got what they wanted, with the SIX! substitions turning it into a meaningless friendly.

Performance wise who knows what that signifies? Not very much I reckon, tho I think Utd will “struggle” this season.

But it was still great to be a part of more Latics history and there’s even more to come. Something tells me this season will be special irrespective of the results.

No matter what your views are of the last Latics manager, the Chairman, the team or the club in general there is no doubt this has been a fantastic time to be a Latics fan.

Yes, there are bigger clubs to support, and there are easier clubs to support, but not every clubs fans have been there whilst their clubs have re written the history books.

If you stop and think for a few minutes what our club has achieved in our recent history it is unbelievable.

How many fans of small provincial town clubs have seen their team play at Wembley on 8 occasions, not counting Cardiff which would have been at Wembley, seen numerous promotions and eight years of top flight football, its astounding.

And as galacTIC says there is every chance of even more to come. I am so glad my Dad and his Dad before chose Latics for me as my club, I feel so privileged to have been associated with Wigan Athletic and watched history being made on so many occasions.

                Long may it continue.

Fil, That is the only one I didn’t go to, but all the highlights were on TV, so I did see Bobby Campbells infamous penalty.
