Callum has been a success in the FA Cup ties, with three goals in six games, leading the team to the Cup Final.
However, his record in the League has been rather different. He has been playing in place of McArthur, with Gomez been playing in place of Di Santo.
The team that beat Everton in the cup started against Newcastle, with McManaman making his first start. The team produced a great first half against Newcastle. But Newcastle came back into the game and he was replaced by McArthur.
He started the next two league games. After an indifferent team performance against Norwich, he was sustituted. Against QPR, the team played better – against a ten man team – but struggled to score. He was substituted again.
He did not start against Manchester City, and the team put in a good performance. McManaman came on for Di Santo.
He returned against West Ham but after was substituted after the team had a poor first half time. McArthur came on and revitalised the team.
24 April 2013 at 3:52 am #110722Yep, think the games up without a certain Paraguayan centre back. Unless Scharner morphs into Franz Beckenbaur between now and Saturday, I think Bale/Defoe will have a field day.
24 April 2013 at 4:02 am #110723I don’t think AVB knows his best team. Spurs played poorly for an hour against Manchester City, then AVB made three substitutions.
Bale is not fully fit and Defoe is coming back from injury. Let’s show them respect but not accept defeat before the game.
Meanwhile, Aston Villa face a revitalised Sunderland. All is not lost.
24 April 2013 at 12:39 pm #110741There is an argument for leaving Caldwell out and playing a back three of Boyce, Scharner and Figueroa, with Stam at RWB.
Wouldn’t be that tempted to do it myself, and I don’t think Bobby will either, but it’s an option.
24 April 2013 at 5:11 pm #110774That being said there is nobody else tried and tested in the center and now is not the time to be throwing the likes of Golobart in..
Big Golly made his full debut away at Stoke and looked pretty comfortable against their muscle men and arial style football ! Plus I think he cares enough to put the effort in !
24 April 2013 at 5:31 pm #110779If we do end up getting relegated it will be down to the ridiculous unlucky streak of defender injuries.
.I think there are a lot more factors contributing than that, and luck shouldn’t really come into it over a league season, a cup exit maybe, but blaming a relegation on bad luck is just hiding from the truth I’m afraid.
Ok then, allow me to rephrase..
If we get relegated it will be down to the fact that we dont have a back up team of premier league players worthy and waiting in the wings should injuries occur that should have been purchased with the money we dont earn from the ridiculously priced season tickets that if were increased to accomodate an extra player or two would no doubt have Wiganers all over spitting their pies out out in disgust.
And breathe.
24 April 2013 at 5:40 pm #110781now is not the time to be throwing the likes of Golobart in.
Oh I don’t know about that. He looked pretty good vs Hudersfield (wasn’t it?) and a damn site more solid than that flyweight Lopez. We took a punt on young Callum, and his youthful exuberance has shone through. Why not Roman’s? Got to be better than tortoise Caldwell and maybe even tired Scharner.
Huddersfield and Stoke ( as mentioned by Lostock Hall ) couldnt be further away from the likes of Tottenham & Swansea in terms of attacking threats..
He looks confident on his feet and I am a big admirer of the Pink Iguana so please dont get me wrong but he worried me V Macclesfield when they were moving the ball around fast and trying to take him on.
Funnily enough he got away with flattening them a couple of times flash forward the likes of Bale etc. taking him on he will either have a nightmare or see cards.
Of course its all my own opinion and observations and he could come in and set the world alight but I think its unfair to put such a young lad in such a demanding position against such attacking opposition.
But the mention of Stam coming back in the team by Griff has gave me a sense of desperation on the subject.
Another choice would be to play McCarthy in front of the 2 centre backs as done previously.

I know mate, just the mention of it is enough to send shivers down my spine.
You could argue that as much as our upturn in form was seen to have came about when Alcaraz rejoined the team it could also be said the same of when Stam was dropped.
I would play Pollit at RWB before Stam as I am sure out of ten attempts he would get at least one somewhere in the box..
24 April 2013 at 6:27 pm #110790Thought Golobart was also on the injured list?
24 April 2013 at 6:53 pm #110791Stam at RWB isn’t a bad shout because he is (if nothing else) a threat going forward. Not the best crosser but gets it right from time to time and, has the ability to put the ball on the strikers head when he does.
Granted he’s a liability and this season has been sh!te but, he may just get the nod Saturday and we can only hope he has one of his better days.
24 April 2013 at 10:54 pm #110796Let’s look at it from another perspective. If with the injury to Alcaraz we are going to concede more goals, then lets make sure we score more goals than the opposition. Lets play Hernandez and Kone up front together.
What’s the point of getting someone on loan and not playing them????? i.e. Sinclair, Not done to bad since as he?24 April 2013 at 11:03 pm #110798Pointless what any of us think really though if we are honest.
It will be Figgy, Caldwell and Scharner and make no mistake about it.
If the pitch is wet then Scharner and Caldwell are for it. We need a confident performance of gigantic proportions. We did it at White Hart Lane and now it’s up to Bob to instill the confidence and i think he will use that victory as a starter.

Correct.

A goal scorer of Hernandez’s proven quality is just what we need.
Personally I would also drop Maloney for Messi while we are at it
