In theory they are not “our” players being that their contracts and loan contracts ran out at the end of June, but I know what you meant with our in these “” .
I would have liked to have signed Robles, he has the making of a great goalie.
Alcaraz had a terrible time with injuries last season and although he came back for the cup and run in, throws some doubt over his ability to play a full season if needed. Out for over 6 months with a soft tissue injury i.e. a bruise. :woohoo:
Kone may do well, but is in competition with some better players than he had challenging him last season. I can imagine him spitting the dummy out if he gets dropped for a few games.
As for the backroom staff, take Jonesey out the equation and the rest he is welcome to! :P
From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!10 July 2013 at 1:42 am #117611Dose kenwright no the player the thin waiter is signing got relegated last season mite have a bet on that dose eneyone no what odds on Everton going down.Just checked on Oddschecker….they are various prices from 21/1 to 28/1….7th least likely to go down.
Crystal Greenhouse and Dull are odds on to go down.
The bookies only get football that wrong, erm, once every 25 years :woohoo: :woohoo:
Dont know the odds, but my tip of the day would be us to finish higher in the Championship than Everton in their league ;)
10 July 2013 at 1:48 am #117612I didn’t hear any complaints when we signed Scotland and Gomez……. Oh hang on.
10 July 2013 at 1:51 am #117614I’m sure people will have a moan that Roberto’s being mentioned again, however looking at these signings it really does beg the question, was Martinez working his last 6 months with Wigan Athletic’s (the people paying his wages) best interests at heart ?

You’re calling Martinez a waiter because he comes from Spain? Because as we all know, everyone who comes from Spain is a waiter.
That’s typecast. A bit like calling you, just because you come from the North West, an illiterate Luddite.

Technically ‘Luddites’ were from Nottingham and the East Midlands where they smashed up lace making machines which threatened their skilled jobs, the movement then flourished in East Anglia and Cornish tin mines, before moving on to the mills of Yorkshire and finally into the “north west”, so be careful of who you “typecast” and ‘what’ you cast them as before checking the facts.
Although I do agree with you about calling Martinez a “thin waiter”, all the waiters I have met are honest honourable people who don’t f**k off to another restaurant if a plate of food gets dropped, they clear up the mess and serve the dish again.

Whilst true that the Luddites were originally associated with Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire, that was in 1811.It’s now 2013 and the modern association of the word Luddite is:
‘any opponent of industrial change or innovation’
or
‘In modern usage, “Luddite” is a term describing those opposed to, or slow to adopt or incorporate into their lifestyle, industrialisation, automation, computerisation or new technologies in general’
With the people of the North West of England being regarded by many (mainly) Southern areas of the UK as being a bit simple, stuck in their ways, and unable to embrace modern attitudes, combined with the grammar used in The Saint’s post – I stand by my comments.

Surely this criticism – if it were true – would apply equally to Coyle, who deserted Burnley and wandered off to Bolton. For his next course, he saw the same thing going down at Bolton too.
Anyway, it’s food for thought.
10 July 2013 at 9:53 am #117632The difference being Coyle improved Burnley’s league status, then left .
10 July 2013 at 12:51 pm #117633He’s gone.. Can we move on?
The sooner the season starts the better, then we can get back to the proper
bickering, about who our best left back is or lightsides n darksides.10 July 2013 at 1:06 pm #117634The difference being Coyle improved Burnley’s league status, then left .I don’t mind criticism of Martinez. But I do object to unfair and untrue criticism.
I think that most people would agree that Coyle deserted Burnley, leaving them in a very perilous situation. They were indeed relegated at the end of the season. That’s not to say that Coyle – with very limited resources – could have saved them, but he didn’t stay to try.
Nigel Adkins would have liked the opportunity to stay at Southampton last season. But very few managers have the privilege of retiring. They may leave for another job, but most are sacked.
10 July 2013 at 1:10 pm #117635Whelan could look into suing Martinez as he appears now to have been very underhand, if he rated Joel & Alcaraz so highly, why weren’t they given Wigan contracts ? Who wanted the fairly low buy out clause in Kone’s contract, was there an attempt to get rid of the clause ?
