Whelan could look into suing Martinez as he appears now to have been very underhand, if he rated Joel & Alcaraz so highly, why weren’t they given Wigan contracts ? Who wanted the fairly low buy out clause in Kone’s contract, was there an attempt to get rid of the clause ?
I have sat here for a few minutes trying to think of a diplomatic response to this and came up with the following:
Whelan could look into suing Martinez as he appears now to have been very underhand, if he rated Joel & Alcaraz so highly, why weren’t they given Wigan contracts ? Who wanted the fairly low buy out clause in Kone’s contract, was there an attempt to get rid of the clause ?
Do you really think that the manager alone decides who to keep and what contract deals to offer?
Whelan watches the games. Jonathan aJckson watches the games. They know how good or otherwise a player is. They know how much they are being paid without having to look at messageboards or the Press for speculation.
They know the terms of the contracts, particularly the small print. They speak with the manager to discuss with him the players we need, and listen to who he thinks he needs for the current situation and objectives, and approve (or otherwise) what he asks for.

“Whelan could look into suing Martinez….”?
  [/quote]
You are indeed a man of impeccable patience GL even though I am surprised at your willingness at times to suffer fools.
When Coyle left, Burnley were higher than Bolton in the league !
The moron is you salford, you’ve been taken in by Mr.Nice hook, line & sinker, you have your opinion though & I have mine . Martinez had an agenda, he promised Swansea when he left them that he wouldn’t raid their players, he went in for about 4, he only cares about Roberto Martinez and will one day have an excellent career in politics as I have my doubts his talents are in football management, talks a good game though .
I take it you agree with the likes of garswood then, he’d have us believe that Martinez has virtually nothing to do with signings & contracts, must have been Whelan who fancied raiding Swansea then, apologies all round I stand corrected, It’ll just be Kenwright who took a shine to Kone too .
Go on then I will have a nibble.. It is lunch time after all..
“Whelan could look into suing Martinez as he appears now to have been very underhand, if he rated Joel & Alcaraz so highly, why weren’t they given Wigan contracts ?”
Alcaraz was offered a contract he just didn’t want to sign it.
Robles was never our player but I would bet a penny to a pound of poo if we had a fee agreed he would not want to play in the Championship.
“Who wanted the fairly low buy out clause in Kone’s contract, was there an attempt to get rid of the clause ?”
Kone’s agent and probably Kone himself as he clearly is too good to be playing the Championship.
How do you think an attempt to get rid of the clause would go down?
Jackson: Hey Kone, we want to get rid of that relegation release clause what do you think?
Kone: Fek orf we are third from bottom and I am playing for peanuts as it is.
There is nothing underhand about it all.
If Martinez hadn’t signed them for Everton someone else would have.
In fact if Martinez was still in charge I would bet that none of them would have been in a Wigan shirt next season anyway.
I think you are guessing that is how it was played out, I hope I’m wrong and you and garswood are right really because I used to like Martinez, I’m just not convinced at the moment that he hadn’t planned to leave and take players with him a long time before he did .

I too will try again, slowly, and then give up.
I didn’t say he had nothing to do with the signings if you read my post.
The manager decides who he would like – either already in the squad to retain, or to “raid”. The business side of the company – because that’s what a football club is – decide whether that is financially feasible. They have the final say whether they will stump up the cash (or offer extended contracts) etc. A good business management team will try to support their manager. A poor team (eg Newcastle at present) won’t.
I won’t go after Swansea players – complete lie .
I will leave Wigan in a better position, we will get into Europe through league position – lie .
He took us down and left our squad to be pulled apart, not satisfied with that he comes in for Kone & is anybody on here really nieve enough to believe he didn’t have a word with Alcaraz & Joel, come on .
He as good as tried to get us knocked out the cup until the quarters when we maybe did get a glimpse of the genius he’s supposed to be, time will tell but he had 4 years with us before failing to get Swansea promoted, this really is old news though . My problem is with the way he’s treating our club now !

How is he treating our club?
If everton didnt sign kone, somebody else would have.
Expect mcarthy to go aswell, whether to everton or someone else, because like kone he is too good a player to be
Playing in the championship.
It was the right thing for both parties that he went…right for him, for his career, and right for wigan athletic, as i
think its gonna take something different to get out of this league, and owen coyle has done it before.
I have not been as excited about a season to start since our first one in the premier league, 8 years ago,
terrific signings, and a proper english number 9 who will be a fans favourite from the off.
Roberto has gone…thank him for the F.A cup and move on.
