Was half way to arranging something for next Sunday when I remembered.

Yes that’s partially due to my age, but just proves how much I wish this season was now over altogether.

Very poor home turn out on Sunday I reckon, a sign of things to come

There shouldn’t be too much of a fall off of the home support on Sunday, it has been dire all season and most have still turned up, apart from filmoss and VAT of course.

Get yourselves down there, stand up and be proud to be a Latic, give the lads a clap, they have tried, but were not good enough, it happens.

It is still our club, and the best club in the world to follow, there’s not many had the journey we have had since 1932. We will be back in August, better and stronger for it.

      C’mon Latics!!!

I think it will be business as usual, sure Leeds will bring their full allocation purely as its the last game of the season despite them not making the playoffs .. unless they beat us 14-0 ……….

Supposed to be sunny as well which always brings a few more out ..

I’m looking forward to it, I might just go early and have a couple in/outside the Brick before the match.

All 4 of us stopped going, not just me! We all bought season tickets so we financially supported the club but the club didn’t repay us in anyway whatsoever and by ‘repay’ I mean give us any value for our money because it isn’t all about blind faith supporting for us. The club has been mismanaged and the effect has brought about yet another relegation. It’s alright spouting off about ‘Smashing’ League One with parachute payments and a squad that was actually good enough to compete in The Championship but to stand back and let that squad get dismantled and appear completely bereft of any ideas of how to move the club forward is akin to some idiots running a school tuck shop if you ask me! The football has been negative, boring and to be quite frank utterly shite in my view and so after the Forest game I decided that it wasn’t going to get any better soon, well certainly not this season and so I chose to do something else with my spare time, my prerogative ya see! I haven’t forgot about the game on Sunday, it’s just that I have better things to do with my time because if the club can’t be arsed then neither can I!

It’s not called “blind faith supporting” it’s called “SUPPORTING”

Only going when you enjoy it or feel you get something back from the club makes you a fan, not a supporter.

What you’re doing Phil is not supporting the club. You’re paying to be entertained.

You’d never say you were supporting a cinema or a theatre. You only go there to be entertained by what they’re showing. Likewise you with the football.

Supporting the club is to give them your money no matter how bad they are – because they’re your club and you made a decision to support them in whatever they do.

You might call it ‘blind faith’ but that’s what the hard-core fanbase of most clubs is like, and it’s why clubs like Portsmouth were on the bones of their arse playing in League Two but still managed to attract twenty thousand on match days.

You are right Johnnie, I’m not one of the hard core fans, there are only about 2000 of them tops. As for Portsmouth, that is surely down to demographics because the likes of Coventry, Luton, Blackpool et al have seen their crowds fall accordingly! Football has evolved over the years, some may say for the worse but these days kids are not born into whichever club their Dad and Grandad suppport, they make their own minds up and usually radiate towards ‘The Good Stuff’ because football ‘IS’ about entertainment these days! As for me and Wigan, I think the club has let the fans down and needs to make amends rather than wait and see who the hard core are because when it gets to that point I think you will find that most of those up top will have fucked off by then as well!

I said it before fil on another thread in a slightly different way, but you sir are NOT a real fan/supporter.

And, what is it exactly you expect from a club like wigan athletic???

He has bought his season ticket, so has paid whether he goes or not, that is his prerogative. I know Phil pretty well and it must have got bad for him to become so disillusioned by it all.
To label someone not a ‘REAL’ fan, after putting up with 19 of the 22 games we have witnessed this season is harsh to say the least.
I am sure he’ll be back next season when hopefully lessons will have been learned and we have another promotion party.

What a sad thread this is and it seems to show some of our fans, even long term ones, as being more than spoilt. I don’t think any club has given it’s supporters more value for money over the years than Wigan Athletic, but a crap season and you can’t see people for dust. Every team has lousy season, most teams have more lousy seasons than we do. Just man up you soft sods.

Well don’t know about Phil but I would expect them to at least hold their own and compete in this league and not the shambolic shite we’ve had to endure this season.I wouldn’t complain about us going down if we at least had a go at staying up.

I won’t be there on Sunday either – if its a nice day I’ll be doing me garden.

I guess that makes me a shit supporter as well.

I’ll live – and have a clear concience.

Enjoy it – if you can ……………

I won’t be there for a dead rubber of a game. If it was 3pm on a Saturday I would but I only go for a few pre match pints now anyway and so the little un can support his local team. Seen it all, been Europe won the FA Cup etc I wouldn’t go half as much if it weren’t for him. Better football at Ashton Athletic.

If you are one of the ones berating others for not going, I presume you’ll be at every pre-season friendly, cos that’s all this is.

I don’t think you can compare supporting a sports team/person with anything else. There’s just nothing that matches it.

You don’t follow a TV program or film series in the same way as you do in this case a football team. If they cancel your favourite TV program you don’t stop watching TV or refuse to watch any program of a similar genre. If Latics ceased to exist though I wouldn’t start watching another team. Similarly, as much as I like the James Bond films I have never been reduced to tears and hugged random strangers when he kills the bad guy and been on a night out to celebrate with friends and fellow Bond fans.

You take the rough with the smooth – the good with the bad. The good always feels 10x better when you have been through the bad. I don’t go to every game because I can’t afford to but the entertainment value doesn’t and never will dictate whether or not I go.

Yes it’s a dead rubber Tez but it’s still a league game. If we were sat in 12th place in January with no chance of going up and none of going down would you stop going? Did you stop going in the Premier League in the two seasons where we weren’t getting into Europe but weren’t getting relegated? Every game was essentially a dead rubber then.
