Two up at half time and if there was ever a chance to boost nay double our goal difference for the season, a different set of players with a different agenda turn out for the second half. Unless Barnsley were really Brazil in disguise and decided to give us a start?
We were hardly hanging on by the end but I think that second half exposed a number of frailties that might hamper us for the run in. I haven’t seen as dodgy a defence as Barnsley’s at ours for a long time and we just couldn’t break through them as we did in the first half. We sat deep and let them play for a full half hour before we got a bit of momentum back in the last ten minutes or so.
Hard to explain but my bet was 2-0 and I was on the edge of ripping up the slip at half time. A win’s a win but what an odd game. Hope Ben Watson’s injury isn’t as bad as it looked.
19 February 2014 at 2:51 am #127501Well having done correct score bets of 3-0(11/1) 3-1(12/1) and 4-0(22/1) I was fairly confident of collecting at halftime but like you say, that second half was strange and also very frustrating for me !!
19 February 2014 at 2:57 am #127502I agree we did seem to switch off a bit and a better team would have got back into the game given the second half performance however would we have played with such laxity against a better team ? I think not.
let’s not forget that watsons injury may have affected one or two of them and it will be a big loss without him going into the tough games coming up so let’s hope it’s not too serious.
On a more positive note we never needed to up the gears this evening and the big battles are coming up but what an impressive points tally since uwe took over 24 points from 12 games is promotion form – the plays offs seem a much more realistic than they have done all season tonight!19 February 2014 at 2:58 am #127503It looks like Ben has broken his right leg.
19 February 2014 at 2:58 am #127504I had Waghorn to score first goal and Wigan to win 2-0 at 22/1. :(
From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!19 February 2014 at 3:01 am #127505It looks like Ben has broken his right leg. That cracking noise from the tackle was fuckin sickening ! We sit on the halfway line and we heard it from there ! Hope it aint a break but we all suspected it when we heard it ! :(
19 February 2014 at 3:08 am #127507We never seemed to get going 2nd half. But job done, 3 more points towards the play offs.
Still just over 1/3 of the season to go. I am more confident than I have been since about September that we will get into the play offs. If we get in the play offs, we will go up.
Mclean impressive again 1st half. New boys settling in well…cant argue with 2 goals!
Just hope BW is ok, it didn’t look good at all. If it is another break, then his long term prospects aren’t good.
19 February 2014 at 3:21 am #127508thought the manager got the tactics spot on in the second half. it werent pretty but spot on.they never worried us and we ll be fresh for the weekend

Not sure about that one ! Anyway, we will certainly know a lot more after our next three games as to where we are going this season !
19 February 2014 at 4:23 am #127512It was a well ground out 2-0 win considering what happened to Ben well done lads

We heard it from the back of the West Stand. I’ll show my arse if it isn’t broken!
19 February 2014 at 2:08 pm #127521I think the 2nd half game plan was to make the game more entertaining and competitive but Barnsley were so bad they wouldn’t oblidge.

The stamina issue again ! If the squad isn’t whipped into shape soon then the play-offs will be a no no !

I never quite get this stamina over style of play thing. Does a team expend more energy piling on pressure trying to score or busting a gut trying not to concede? I suppose a team is forced into the latter but wouldn’t have to be if it pulled its finger out and did the former  Now I’m really confused
