I’ve decided to make a weekend of it and travelling down on the Friday and staying with a mate who lives in London. Not I know Millwall have a bit of a bad reputation. How much should I keep my head down on the way to the game? Is anybody else travelling in from London?

Assuming you mean you’re travelling in by Tube – keep your head down. You’ll probably be fine, but you can never be sure. Just don’t display colours, and don’t dance around when we win. :)

Look at the tube and rail map of London. Try to take a route that Millwall fans won’t. They have a choice, but might go from Waterloo via the Bakerloo Line to Wembley Central or the Jubilee Line to Wembley Park. The Metropolitan Line also goes to Wembley Park.

You don’t have to go by tube. Chiltern Trains run from Marylebone (on the Bakerloo Line, but you can walk from Baker Street) to Wembley Stadium, the nearest station to the ground.

There is a direct Southern Trains service from Croydon via Clapham Junction to Wembley Central – it avoids central London. It’s hourly but other trains fill the gaps.

You can go from Euston to Wembley Central on Overground or London Midland. Other services connect at Willesden Junction.

If you don’t act like a complete t!t you’ll be fine. I’ve been down to Millwall a few times & a group of us have got the tube out to Surrey Quays & then walked down to their ground & walked back & not seen a sniff of trouble
Also back in 1999 after the Auto Windscreens final I was staying in Willesden Green with friends & had to get the same tube line back that most of them were taking, chatted to loads of em & again not a sniff of trouble. And the St George’s Flag with a very badly painted “Wigan Athletic” daubed through the middle I had draped round my shoulders kind of identified which team I’d been supporting.
As with most teams, if you go lookng for it then I’m sure you’ll find trouble – if you don’t you won’t
The only time I’ve ever seen Millwall kick off was when Latics beat em in the play off semi’s back in 2000 & even then they seemed more interested in taking it out on the police & the JJB interior design than they did on taking it out on Latcis fans

Reading to Paddington then Bakerloo line to Wembley for us. I suspect it’ll be full of Millwall fans but i would hope there won’t be any trouble. We’ll be keeping a very low profile, whatever the result…

Last time around in the AWS Final, our small group of London Latics were the most visible bunch of apprehensive Wiganers imaginable (we’d been on Soccer AM the morning before). Met a couple of ‘Wall on Baker Street tube who were good as gold (“You’ve got some facking bottle coming this way”, getting their mate to come over and put the willies up one of ours, etc). However the atmosphere turned on the tube itself when one little knobead wrapped in a St George’s flag demanded we get off, and the older ones who’d been joshing with us five minutes previously looked the other way).

Since then I’ve been to the New Den on foot or public transport a few times and not seen any bother (one kid tried it on as we were being escorted to our train once but I reported him discreetly and he got booted off the kerb with a riot shield – thanks for that, OB).

These days, living in SE London, I know of one bloke who’s making a Stag Night of it, going with 14 pals, while our lollipop man says he was there last time, boozing it up with his family in Baker Street. My youngest one’s football coach wants us to win because he’s one Chelsea in a flatshare full of Millwall.

My preferred route to Wembley will definitely be the Overground from Clapham Junction then a 15-minute walk to the ground. As on matchdays, most Millwall supporters will be going via Waterloo and London Bridge then the tube, refuelling in the pubs around Great Portland Street and Baker Street. As The Egg says, put your head in the paper and you’ll be fine; then take the Millwall lot as you find ’em.

Incidentally, I know that loads have them have been banned over the years, but many that I talk to are really defeatist about their prospects of even getting a ticket for the game. Could it be a localised outbreak of MCD (Massive Club Delusion).

I’ll be taking a direct Southern Trains service from Balham to Wembley Central. I’ll have to take the Overground to Clapham Junction on the way back.

            I’ll look out for you!
