I’m just wondering if we are going to make the odd signing to improve the squad?. I’ve not even heard a rumour it’s more about players leaving.
I hope the club doesn’t think we will survive with our present squad, we’ve not a cat in hell’s chance of staying up25 June 2022 at 6:23 pm #196576I’d imagine thinks will start moving on July 1st like it usually does in the lower divisions.
Free transfers and loans will be our market i would expect.26 June 2022 at 2:22 pm #196598Worrying really.
Especially if there’s any truth that Leam commented to someone at the breakfast fixture launch event that they shouldnt expect signings and they want to give these lads a chance.
That for me, is a big gamble. Remember the Blackburn cup game? Ok, we won that day, but for 60 mins we were 3 passes and 3 yards slower and off the pace. But for Mowbray playing a 2nd choice keeper, we wouldn’t have won. It was frightening how much they were sharper and quicker than us. And thats going to be the same for most teams we will face. I expect Norrrth End to come out at us like a steam train, Norwich too…and so on.
I think we definitely lack pace in the squad…throughout the positions. Leam will either live or die by his decision. Is it gos decision, or has he been told to do it? I think its really naive to not strengthen, and I cant feel that Leam is that daft. We didn’t exactly blow League One away and apart from 3 or 4 teams, the quality was mediocre. We are going up to another level comoletely and it could be a bad mistake.
I said weeks ago we would not bring players in, I hoped I was wrong. Ive not actually renewed this season, I’m just going to pick and choose a few games, I’m already away for a few games due to work and other things and probably will be unavailable for others during the season too.
26 June 2022 at 10:16 pm #196603I wouldn’t get too worried about Leam’s comments. Him and Mal like to keep their cards close to their chest so their never going to say “we’ve got millions an we’re gonna spend it”.
They’ll probably see how the squad gets on against the big guns of Bamber Bridge and Hyde and take it from there.

So you reckon he’s lying when he says no one’s coming in ??. I reckon he thinks our current squad of players are good enough. If that’s the case we will go straight back down. The current squad isn’t strong or good enough. He wouldn’t play Aasgaard in League One so he’s no chance in the Championship. He’ll probably give Shinnie a chance FFS
26 June 2022 at 11:00 pm #196606To say he’s “lying” is a bit harsh, maybe “economical with the truth”.
I would be amazed if we don’t make a couple of signings before the season starts.
He didn’t give Shinnie that much of a chance in league 1 so he must’ve read this site and agreed with you!
27 June 2022 at 6:50 am #196608Well it’s simple, the Championship is a far harder League to compete in than League One which we’ve proved again last season.
If Richardson honestly thinks we have the quality to stay up then to me it proves what I was saying all last year,
Top grade coach
Sh1t manager,
He needs someone from above to tap him on the shoulder and say “Really??”, because squad wise were a million miles off competing and staying up. I’m not quite sure what the owners are thinking as well or if it was their idea but to me and plenty of others it’s a recipe for disaster. Our first 2 games will be a yard stick tester on how the season goes. Magennis struggle in L1 so f##k knows how he’ll cope in The Championship ffs
27 June 2022 at 7:21 am #196610Lose those first two games and the whole managers and owners will feel the wrath of the message boards.
27 June 2022 at 7:31 am #196611Darickwa, Bennett, Magennis and McClean will all struggle in The Championship.
27 June 2022 at 10:58 am #196613I’ve a feeling James McLean is going to smash it from his deeper wing back position!
Up the Voulez-Vous Tics
29 June 2022 at 7:34 am #196618McClean hasn’t got the legs get up and down for 90. Last season he was good for an hour then he’d fade out the game.
I’m just taken back with Richardson’s comments saying he’s going to give players a chance. I don’t think he see’s the woods for the tree’s.
The current squad is simply not strong enough. It needs I’d say min 4-5 players adding, some youth and a bit of experience.
If we try to compete with our current squad we will struggle to stay up.
This is were coaches and managers show they are what they are. Coaches train the players managers and owners bring in,
Managers and owners see weaknesses and bring players in to strengthen. If you don’t try to strengthen every season then you cannot progress. That’s wether you finish top or bottom the previous year.
I think I speak for all it’s good to see Wyke on the mend but from a footballing side we cannot do another season at a higher level without a forward good enough to compete.
I’m afraid Shinnie and Magennis will be found out this coming for sure.30 June 2022 at 7:51 am #196627Yet in another quote elsewhere, Leam has gone on to say that he is aware we need signings.
There is no point signing anyone for signings sake.
30 June 2022 at 9:47 am #196630Totally agree Runcorn. No point in making signings just to make up the numbers. Better to get in a few quality additions rather than a lot of average players.
I’d suggest we did very well pre season last year with the complete squad rebuild with only Jordan Jones not hitting it off. I know the jury is out on Shinnie and Magennis but let’s see them after a full pre season with us.
I believe Shinnie will quieten the doubters (cup winners)
30 June 2022 at 10:32 am #196631To question Leam Richardson’s judgement is absolutely ridiculous. He knows exactly what is required and will plan for the championship accordingly. Some of you are acting like kids in the back seat of a car going on holiday, “are we there yet?”
This squad has now had a full season together and that means a lot in football. 3 or 4 new signings will make a massive impact and I’m sure Leam and Mal will be working hard to get them.
Don’t think its an easy job bringing in players, there’s a load of other teams trying to do the same in the Championship, 3 with pockets bulging courtesy of parachute payments.
So sit back, stop panicking and see what happens in the coming weeks.
Oh and by the way, if you haven’t already seen it, read the article that Mal Brannigan has wrote on the official site about recruitment. He tells you exactly what this windows recruitment policy is all about for our club. Once again they have it bang on in my opinion. From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!1 July 2022 at 8:53 pm #196639Leam out!!
